DETAILED LESSON PLAN

School: Don Carlos Central Elementary Grade Level: IV

School

Teacher: Rosemarie G. Garing Learning Area: Science

Teaching Date: April 5, 2023 Quarter: 4th

I. Objectives

A. Content Standards: The learners demonstrate understanding of plants have body part that
make them adopt to land and water

B. Performance Standards: The learners should be able to conduct investigation in the

specialized structures of plants given varying environmental conditions: light, water,
temperature, and soil type. S4LT-lle-f-10

C. Learning Competencies/Objectives
1. Compare the characteristics of different plant seeds.
2. Compare the growth process of monocot seeds to a dicot seed.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Monocot and Dicot

Learning Materials: PPT, TV, Laptop

Reference: Science 4 Book, Page 126-127

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity

 Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer

Good Morning Class! Good Morning Teacher Rose!

Everybody Stand for our prayer! (everyone stand-up for the Prayer)

seats.
2. Checking of Attendance

Before we start our lesson this morning, I will

check your attendance first. Say present if your
name is called! (pupils do what the teacher said)

3. Review of the previous lesson Our last topic is all about what do
plants need in order to grow,
Who among you here can still remember our Teacher!
previous topic?

Yes, Melanie?
Sun and water, Teacher!

Very Good Melanie! With that lets give Melanie a

three clap.

What are they?

Very Good! Yes Teacher!

4. Motivation

So, before we proceed our discussion today, I

have here a video presentation and I want you to
listen because I have a further question after, is
that clear?

(the teacher will play the video entitled “A Seed

Story”)
It’s all about seed teacher!
5. Lesson Proper

Base on the video presentation that you’ve watch,

what do you think our lesson this morning?

Yes, Krissandra?

Very Good krissandra!

6. Discussion

Our lesson this morning is all about the monocot

and dicot of the seeds.

We will identify and know the differences between

dicot seed and monocot seed.

Please look and observe at the picture below.

Base on the picture what are the differences
between the two seeds in the picture? The monocot seed is corn and the
dicot seed is mongo bean.
Very Good Class!

Aside from that, what other characteristics you

notice between the two seeds? Both of the seed has a seed coat
Teacher!
Very good class!

Now we will differentiate the monocot and dicot

seed by knowing the different parts of them.
Please, look at the picture and table below.

These are the other example of dicot seeds.

7. Application

Now, I will group you into 3 groups. I have here a

mongo seed and corn seed, you going to dissect
each seed and differentiate the characteristics of
them.

What to do:

1. Get bean seeds

2. Remove the skin of the seeds.
3. Using the nail cutter, split the seeds open.
CAUTION: Exercise caution in handling
sharp instruments.
4. In your notebook, draw and color the part
of the seed.
5. Look inside the bean using a hand lens
and observe.
6. Draw the appearance of monocot and dicot
seed.
7. Count the part of the seed.

Seed coat, epicotyl, hypocotyl and

cotyledon, Teacher!
8. Generalization
Again, what are the parts of dicot seed?

Yes, Shaun?

Seed coat, epicotyl, hypocotyl and

cotyledon, endosperm and radicle,
Very Good Shaun! Teacher!

What are the parts of monocot seed? None so far teacher!

Yes, Julian?

Very good Julian!

Is there any questions regarding our topic this

morning?
