GRAMMAR: PAST SIMPLE OF REGULAR VERBS


AFFIRMATIVE [verb + -ed or -d if ends in -e] NEGATIVE [didn’t + verb in infinitive]

I / You / She / talked about inventions. I / You / She / didn’t visit the museum.
He / We / They baked biscuits. He / We / They walk to school.

She worked in the city and lived in the country. She didn’t live in the city.
(Ella trabajaba en la ciudad y vivía en el campo. No vivía en la ciudad.)

INTERROGATIVE [Did + subject + infinitive … ?] SHORT ANSWERS [Yes,/No, + pronoun + did/didn’t.]

Did I / you / she / invent a phone? Yes, I / you / she / did.


he / we / they play with a Rubik’s cube? No, he / we / they didn’t.

Did she visit her grandparents yesterday? Yes, she did. (¿Visitó ayer a sus abuelos? Sí, lo hizo.)

Years are usually divided in two parts. From 2000 to 2010 we normally say:
