CURRENT SCENARIO OF AUTISM IN INDIA

Many people have asked some questions like

 Does it look same as autism in other
places ?
 What kinds of services are available ?
PAGE 1

 What do families do ?
 Is the prevalence the same ?

While the disorder is not rare , a multitude of

people with autism in India have not been
diagnosed and more critically do not receive
the services they need .
This problem occur in many countries but is
especially true in India where there us a
tremendous :-
 lack of awareness
 misunderstanding about autism among
medical professionals

Obtaining an accurate diagnosis is one of the

major difficulties faced by parents of children .

NUTRITION AND AUTISM

PAGE 1

Individuals with autism have food aversion and

sensitivities. Many also have behavioral issues
that makes mealtime more challenging.
Children with ASD are five more times more
likely to have mealtime challenges such as
tantrums, extreme food selectivity and
ritualistic eating behavior.
Chronic eating problems also increases a child’s
risk for social difficulties and poor academic
achievements.
This may also increase risk of diet related
diseases such as obesity and cardiovascular
disorder in childhood and adolescence .
This highlights the importance of assessing diet
as a part of routine healthcare for all individuals
with ASD

OBJECTIVES

target specific micro nutrients, it may be
possible to reduce autism risk.

2. To study animal models , to show that

taking supplements of certain micro

who are significantly more likely to be
selective picky eaters.
