Blink-182 is a renowned American rock band that emerged from the Southern California punk
scene in the early 1990s. Formed in Poway, California, in 1992, the band initially comprised
guitarist and vocalist Tom DeLonge, bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Scott
Raynor. Their energetic performances and catchy melodies quickly gained them a devoted local
following.
In 1994, Blink-182 released their debut album, "Cheshire Cat," which showcased their signature
blend of pop-punk sound and irreverent humor. The album's success caught the attention of
major record labels, leading to their signing with MCA Records. Their sophomore album, "Dude
Ranch," was released in 1997 and featured the hit single "Dammit," which propelled Blink-182 to
mainstream popularity.
However, it was their third studio album, "Enema of the State" (1999), that catapulted Blink-182
to international fame. With singles like "What's My Age Again?" and "All the Small Things," the
album became a commercial success and solidified the band's status as pop-punk icons. The
album's success was also attributed to its humorous and relatable lyrics, addressing themes of
adolescence, relationships, and rebellion.
Following the release of "Enema of the State," Blink-182 underwent a significant lineup change,
with Travis Barker replacing Scott Raynor on drums. Despite this change, the band continued to
achieve commercial success with their subsequent albums, including "Take Off Your Pants and
Jacket" (2001) and "Blink-182" (2003).
In 2005, Blink-182 announced an indefinite hiatus, with members pursuing various side projects.
During this time, Tom DeLonge formed the band Angels & Airwaves, while Mark Hoppus and
Travis Barker formed +44. However, the band reunited in 2009 and released their sixth studio
album, "Neighborhoods," in 2011.
In 2015, Blink-182 experienced another lineup change, with Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio replacing
Tom DeLonge on guitar and vocals. Despite this change, the band continued to tour and
released their seventh studio album, "California," in 2016. The album marked a return to their
classic pop-punk sound and was well-received by both fans and critics.
Throughout their career, Blink-182 has sold millions of albums worldwide and has had a
profound influence on the pop-punk genre. Known for their high-energy performances and
infectious melodies, Blink-182 remains one of the most influential and enduring bands in
modern rock music.
