5 e On Air
5 e On Air
Rationale; Air is such a vital component of earth which is essential for the survival of living
organisms.but what exactly is air , what is its components, whats the uses of the
different components of air ? These are questions that student may wonder and is as a
result the rational for teaching this lesson
1. Engage:
- Start the lesson by asking students what they think air is made of. Encourage them to share their
ideas and thoughts.
- Show a picture or a video of different outdoor scenes (like mountains, beaches, forests) and ask
students what they notice about the air in those places.
2. Explore:
- Conduct a simple experiment to demonstrate that air takes up space. For example, you can place an
inflated balloon inside a glass jar and then try to put the lid on the jar.
- Introduce the concept of air pressure and its importance in our atmosphere. Discuss how changes in
air pressure affect weather patterns and daily life.
3. Explain:
- Present information about the composition of air. Explain that air is a mixture of gases, primarily
nitrogen, oxygen, and trace amounts of other gases such as carbon dioxide, argon, and water vapor.
- Discuss the properties of each of these gases, including their role in supporting life and their
abundance in the atmosphere.
4. Elaborate:
- Divide students into small groups and assign each group one component of air (nitrogen, oxygen,
carbon dioxide, etc.).
- Have each group research their assigned gas, including its properties, sources, and importance to life
on Earth. Encourage them to create posters or presentations to share their findings with the class.
5. Evaluate:
- Wrap up the lesson with a quiz or a discussion to assess students' understanding of the composition
of air.
- Ask students to explain why each component of air is important for living organisms and the
environment.
- Provide feedback on students' presentations or posters from the elaboration phase to reinforce key
concepts.
