Background

Accidents happen anywhere and anytime. You need to be aware of safety as well as
dangerous tools in and around the environment. Furthermore, you also need to understand
safe handling and use of apparatus.

The Activities

The CALA has two parts. Part A and Part B. You need to complete both parts.

Part A

- Research on hazardous and non-hazardous objects in your environment.


- Some objects can be regarded as unsafe due to the following:
- handling
- usage
- storage
Part B

- Highlight safety precautions measures where applicable.


- Present proper handling, usage and storage of any object or situation.

How you will be assessed.

- The CALA will be assessed out of 30 marks.


- To assess your research of dangerous and non-dangerous objects, your facilitator will
assess both your planning evidence in Part A and B.

- While you are handling, storing and using the objects consider safety.
- Pictures can also be used.

CALA Context

Accidents are happening anywhere, anytime, hence there is need to ensure safety of learners in the environment.

CALA Description

As part of your research consider the following:

Part A: Knowledge and understanding (12 marks)

- Naming objects found in your environment. (6)


- Identify possible dangerous objects or situations. (6)

Part B: Application (18 marks)

- Show the proper handling of the tool chosen. (6)


- Demonstrate how can the tool be used properly. (6)
- From the chosen tool or situation, explain and demonstrate how best the tool can be stored. (6)

How you will be assessed

- Your CALA will be assessed out of 30 marks.


- Your facilitator will assess all the question asked. Marks will be given for your correct demonstration and explanation on handling, usage
and storage of the object or situation.

CALA Description

The CALA will be assessed in two parts. Part A carries 12 marks and Part B carries 18 marks.

Part A: Knowledge and understanding (12 marks)

- Proper naming of objects found in the environment. (6)


- Correctly identified dangerous objects and situations. (6)

Part B: Application (18 marks)

- Proper handling of the tool or situation chosen. (6)


- Proper demonstration on how he tool can be used or how the situation can be handled. (6)
- Good explanation and demonstration on how the tool can be stored and how the situation can be handled. (6)

Assessment procedure

- Assessment will be done in two parts. Part A and Part B.


- On Part B marks will be given according to demonstration and explanation.

BACKGROUND

It has been noted there is high rate of injuries amongst the learners at school and community due to lack of physical fitness. Therefore you will
carry out a research on the causes of injuries amongst the learners and ways of preventing injuries. You Will research on injuries at school and
community. You Will work in groups to gather data from parents, coaches of other sporting discipline. The results from each group will be
tabled, analysed, interpreted and report will be written in your findings.

How you will be assessed
