LESSON 11 – BE CHALLENGED WITH VARIATIONS IN TEXTURE
TEXTURE - is the thickness or thinness of the quality of sound in music
- It also refers to the way multiple voices or instruments interact in a composition
- DIFFERENT KINDS OF MUSICAL TEXTURES:
- Monophonic or Monophony
- considered as thin texture with only one melodic line without harmony or
counterpoint.
- COUNTERPOINT – is the combination of two or more independent voices or
melodies but is harmonically interdependent.
1. Homophonic Texture or Homophony
- occurs when the main melody is accompanied by chords like that from a guitar or a
piano.
- It is thicker than the monophonic texture and it is the most often used.
3. Polyphonic Texture
- also known as counterpoint or polyphony.
- Two or more voices sing the melody but observe different rhythms.
- the thickest texture among the three.

EXAMPLES

Homophony
Music sung or played by one person A song sung by a singer singing together by different voices.

LESSON 12: AN ENHANCED UNDERSTANDING OF HARMONY

HARMONY - the simultaneous sounding of tones as two or more notes are combined.
INTERVALS - the distance between notes/tones
CHORD - the combination of three or more notes arranged in vertical position on the staff.
TRIAD - the other term used to call chord as it consists of thirds and fifths.
- three parts of a chord or triad:
1. base or root – the lowest note
2. third – as the middle note set three steps away from the root
3. fifth – as the top note set five steps away from the root.
PRIMARY CHORDS -are basically “family chords” which are three chords that are most likely to occur in any given
key.
- The Three Primary Chords in C Major:
1. C MAJOR Chord – is formed using the first note do as the base or the lowest note.
2. F MAJOR Chord – is formed when the fourth note fa as the base or the lowest note.
3. G MAJOR Chord – is formed with the fifth note so as the base or the lowest note.

The primary chords are also referred to as:


1. TONIC Chord - the root note of the chord.
2. SUB-DOMINANT - is the fourth note from the tonic.
3. DOMINANT - is the fifth note from the tonic.

LESSON 10: THE PACKAGE DESIGN SAYS IT ALL

PRODUCT PACKAGING - is as important as its contents because it is a way to introduce the product.
- it catches the attention of the buyers and somehow affect the salability of the product.
PRODUCT PACKAGE DESIGN – is the process of designing a product’s packaging up to the production of packages.
PACKAGING - is the method of enclosing or protecting products for storage, sale and use.
- THREE STEPS OF PACKAGING:
1. Process of Design – includes the planning of how the package will look.
2. Evaluation – involves the checking if the package design satisfied the satisfied.
3. Production of packages – involves the printing of the packages.

STUDIO – is a packaging design software with a unique set of tools for 3D packaging design made specifically for
packaging artwork.

LESSON 11: PUT THINGS TOGETHER TO FORM FIGURES

COLLAGE - is an art production in which several materials are put together to form a new work of art.
- originated from the French word “COLLER” which means “to glue”.

Materials that can be used in collage: paper, magazines, pictures, paint, fabric and 3D figures.

ELECTRONIC COLLAGE – collage that are done electronically.


- It is made or composed of electronic images or photographs and is prepared digitally.
PICTURE COLLAGE MAKER – an example of software that can be used to create electronic collage.
- It can be used to make scrapbooks, posters, invitations, calendars and greeting cards.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS - another photo-editing software that can be used to edit pictures digitally
and create collage as well.

MS POWERPOINT – a presentation software that allows the creation of an audio-video art.
