EPISODE 1
PREPARING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

I. INTRODUCTION
Instructional materials are also known as instructional aids that facilitate the effective
delivery of the content or information conveyed within a course. They hold the power to
either engage or demotivate learners. This is the reason why instructional materials have to be
tailored to the content and to the learners. When they are prepared aligned with the objectives
and learning activities they can efficiently and effective help attain the learning outcomes.
Bear in mind that learners learn best if all their senses are engaged in learning.

II. LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of this episode the student should be able to:

1. prepare instructional materials to support teaching and

learning engagement;
2. provide indigenous and localized instructional material for classroom
use; and

3. create accessible course materials.

III. TASKS

Inquire from your resource teacher as to the materials he/she wants you to prepare. Remember,
that when creating instructional materials, it is essential to make sure all students can access
them. Thus, instructional aids must be carefully planned, selected, organized, refined, and
used.

1. Identify the types of print materials and audio-visual media needed for various purposes in
the classroom.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS PURPOSE FOR USE

Print Materials: hand outs, textbooks, lesson Serve for teacher’s guide and reference, also

your RT and students. Organize and add different online materials like (video presentation or
PowerPoint) to your google site and make sure that it is accessible.

Paste the link of your google site here:

C. Preparing Instructional Materials for Actual Teaching and Learning

Get from your RT all the suggestions and the forms of assistance he/she needs from you
during the actual use of instructional materials.

IV. REFLECTION
Guide questions:
1. How did you feel when you learned that you have to gather different instructional
materials for various subject areas? Why did you feel that way? What did you do to
address the feeling?
I feel stressed about the idea of becoming a teacher because it seems like a lot
of hard work. You have to be super flexible and create all sorts of materials for
different subjects. Plus, you need to know everything about what you’re teaching.
Maybe that’s why I don’t see myself as a teacher in the future but we don’t know
what the future will be. As my teacher always said, “You’ve got to act like a pro no
matter what.”

2. In the preparation of the various instructional materials, what were the challenges
that you encountered and how did you cope with them?

The difficulties I faced while preparing different instructional materials

revolved around feeling too shy to ask for guidance from my teacher. I also struggled
with not fully understanding the subject matter and feeling lost about how to begin the
activity. To deal with this, I gathered the courage to approach my teacher for help and
turned to Google to find guidance in addressing these challenges.

3. After completing the task of preparing the instructional materials, what insights did
you have.

After finishing the task, I’ve realized that as a prospective teacher, it’s crucial
to understand which instructional materials suit my students’ learning needs best. I’ve
also noticed there are many instructional materials I haven’t yet come across that
could be beneficial for my students. It might take some time to learn how to use and
incorporate these materials into my teaching practices in the future.

4. How will this experience help you in your future career?

This experience will not only assist me in my future role as a teacher but also
in any field where this knowledge is relevant. I can harness this experience as a
creative individual in various work areas and understand the significance of
everything I engage in, allowing me to perform my tasks effectively.
