a. Why is education important?

Education is important because it teaches us what we need to know for jobs and life. It
helps us make good choices and can make our lives better.

b. Do you believe that education is a human right? Why or why not?

Yes, I believe education is a human right. Everyone should get to learn and grow no matter
where they are from. Education can help make the world a fairer place.

c. What's your learning style?

I learn best by doing things. When I can try things myself, I understand and remember them
better.

d. What characteristics should a good teacher have?

A good teacher should be patient, kind, and really like teaching. They should know how to
make learning fun and interesting for everyone. They should also help when students have
questions.

e. What is your favorite activity outside of school?

My favorite activity outside of school is playing basketball.

The National Polytechnic School (EPN) is a public, secular, and democratic university

Curriculum and Study System at the National


Polytechnic School
If a student enrolls in a program at EPN focused on Sciences, Engineering, and
Technology, they will experience a comprehensive education that spans across various
curricular areas, ensuring a well-rounded academic formation. The curriculum is distributed
as follows:
If the curriculum includes Mathematics and Basic Sciences, then 20% of the student's
education will be dedicated to developing essential analytical and problem-solving skills.
If Humanities and Social Sciences are part of the curriculum, then 4% of the education will
focus on understanding societal structures, enhancing critical thinking, and fostering a
greater appreciation for cultural diversity.
If Management, Finance, and Economics are included, then 7% of the program will prepare
the student for the business aspects related to their field, equipping them with the
knowledge to manage resources efficiently and understand economic principles.
If Computer Science and Communication are covered, then 4% of the student's studies will
be devoted to gaining skills in information technology and effective communication, crucial
for success in today's digital world.
If Professional Training constitutes the curriculum, then 65% of the education will be
centered on specialized knowledge and practical skills within the student's chosen field,
preparing them for professional challenges and opportunities.
In total, these areas combine to form 100% of the curriculum, designed to prepare students
comprehensively for their future careers.

Study System
If a student passes a subject, then the corresponding credits are counted for the student,
which accumulate as they progress through their studies.
Although proficiency in both spoken and written English is a mandatory requirement for
students in professional and postgraduate programs, this subject does not grant any credits.
Curriculum Structure for Professional Degrees

If a student wants to get an undergraduate degree in engineering or sciences, then they need to
finish 225 credits from courses and do a graduation project that is worth 20 credits.
If a student aims to get a technologist degree in a higher-level technology program, then they have
to complete 140 credits from courses and do a graduation project that is worth 15 credits.
Curricular Areas

Basic Training Area: Enables students to acquire knowledge in principles and concepts of basic
sciences and fundamentals of their professional field.

Social Sciences and Humanities Area: Provides knowledge about humans and their environment,
contributing to comprehensive education in ethical values and understanding of the country's socio-
economic, political, and cultural reality.

Professional Training Area: Equips students with specific knowledge, competencies, tools, and
skills for proficient and effective professional practice.

Complementary Professional Training Area: Offers additional knowledge and tools in areas such as
business management, computing, communication, the environment, and economics, supporting
their professional career.

General Information about the Careers at the National Polytechnic


School
Duration: All the careers last for 9 academic periods, which usually equals about 4.5 years.
This depends on the academic calendar and the structure of the program.

Location: Most of the programs are offered at the main campus of the National Polytechnic
School, located in Quito, Ecuador. This campus is known for its stimulating academic
environment and modern facilities.

Field of Study:

Science and Engineering: The academic offerings range from traditional disciplines like
Civil Engineering, Electricity, and Mechanics to modern and rapidly evolving areas such as
Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Software, and Information Technologies.

Basic and Applied Sciences: Programs in Physics, Mathematics, and Applied

Environmental Engineering
Environmental Engineering helps reduce bad effects from buildings and growth. Engineers from the
National Polytechnic School can make and fix systems for clean water, handling waste, stopping
pollution, and helping the environment. They are trained to think big, lead, and work by themselves.
They can work in many places because they know how to deal with environmental issues. The goal
is to train top engineers in civil engineering to plan, design, build, and manage construction works
while being good and ethical. The program aims to be well-known everywhere, supported by strong
science and tech, and connected with public, private, and other universities. Graduates are ethical,
responsible, and good leaders with a strong background in science, math, and engineering, ready to
face environmental problems.

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

This program trains people to handle, analyze, and understand big and complex data from different
sources. They learn to find patterns and useful information in data to help make important decisions
and solve data problems in any area. This makes organizations and the country better economically,
socially, and environmentally. The degree is in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, lasting nine
periods, under the Faculty of Systems Engineering. It's taught on-campus.
