SHIFT STITCH
Shift stitch is an extra stitch(es) you work at the end of a round to make your work
look symmetrical. The stitch can be either added or undone.
The added stitch(es) isn’t counted as part of the round.
Remember to move the marker after the shift stitch.
Next round begins after the shift stitch.
Cut a piece of thin plastic or cardboard that matches the size of the base.
You can use an old file folder, a plastic lid, a cardboard box or any packaging
that would work for this purpose.
8. 90 sc (90)
Do not cut the yarn.
Place both parts on top of each other with wrong side facing in. Put the
plastic piece between them.
Connect both parts by crocheting a round of sl sts through the loops of
both parts. Remember to join the lower part from the stitch marker you
placed earlier; for the upper part, continue to crochet
from where you left off.
At the end of the round, cut the yarn, fasten off and hide the end.
Body
Make sure to keep the stitch marker centred on the back.
Crochet with purple color in continuous rounds.
Attach the yarn to the front loops, starting at the spot that matches
what will be the centre of the back later. See photo for guidance.
For round 5, find the centre of the back and place a stitch marker there. Add a
shift stitch if needed.
It is important to keep the stitch marker centred on the back for the whole
body. Add or undo a shift stitch, when needed.
Form a wire frame. It will reinforce the neck and help to keep the head straight.

Cut the purple yarn, do not fasten off. Leave a loop to continue making
the neck and the from here later on.

Crochet 5 shift stitches. Cut the yarn, fasten off, hide the end. Mark last 10 sts
with stitch markers.
Put the part aside for now.
Stitch marker should stay centred on the back of the neck. Add a few shift
stitches, if necessary.
In the next rounds the stitch marker of the beginning of the round should
stay centred on the back of the head. Add or undo shift stitches, if needed.

17. 40 sc, instructions in brackets are crocheted into FLO: (in 1st front loop:

22. 38 sc, 1 dec, 2 sc, 1 dec, 38 sc (80)
Turn the part so that the seem you just made ends up on the wrong side.
Place a stitch marker in the 41st stitch of round 82 (purple stitch marker on the
photo).
Connect the head and the hair starting from this stitch.
Place the parts on top of each other, put the plastic circle between them.
Connect two parts with yarn from the first part.
Crochet 72 sl st through the loops of the first part and the back loops of round
9 of the second part.
Slightly stuff the chin, this will help it to keep the shape. Next, insert the
inner part inside the head. The last stitch of the inner part should match the
last stitch of the head.
Make 80 sc with mocha color. Crochet through the loops of both parts: inner
part and the head. Crochet in the opposite direction to the inner part stitches.
At the end of the round, do not cut the yarn.
Determine a central stitch on the forehead and count 40 sts to the back of the
head. Place a stitch marker. This will help to attach the hair to the head
symmetrically.
Add as many sc as needed from the last stitch of the head to the stitch marker
you just placed. Put the hair on the head and attach it to the head:
crochet 80 sl st through the loops of round 82 of the hair and the loops of the
head together.
Face Design
Embroider the face with brown thread.
1. Embroider the mouth, 4 rnds down from the nose. The mouth is 7 sts wide.
Lightly stuff the part. Do not stuff the rest of the arm.
Wreath
Wreath base
Chain 30, attach to the wreath base and crochet 10 sl st through the middle of the
base, crochet between the stitches (see photo). Cut the yarn, fasten off, hide the
end. Tie a knot at the beginning of the ch 30.
Repeat same steps to add a string on the other end.
Put the wreath on the head. Fill the vase. You can see some ideas from me
and pattern testers on page 3-4 of this pattern.
