A. About the Institution Banasthali Vidyapeeth is a fully residential university exclusively for women situated in| raral surroundings. The Vidyapeeth at the moment has more than 7000 students. Banasthali’s Edacational Programmes aims at an all around development of students personality. To achieve its objectives of ‘synthesis of spiritual values and scientific achievement of the east and the west’ , it has evolved five fold Educational Programme call “Panchmukhi Shiksha” comprising of the following aspects :- (i) Physical (ii) Practical Git, Aesthetic (jv) Moral (v) Intellectual . Banasthali enjoys autonomy for its programmes. On October 25, 1983, the Govt, of India granted a Deemed University Status to Banasthali Vidyapith. At present the University has 25 teaching departments. The university is unique in nature having an Aviation Academy to train the students as Pilots and also a good cavalry which ‘rain the students in Horse Riding, The University currently has around 4 lakhs sq.ft. of academic premises. The Vidyapith is currently maintaining, not the best possible, a healthy teacher-student ratio of 1:14.56, B. Campus Development ‘The University is spread over in 600 acres of land in Banasthali and 250 acres of land just 2kilometres away from Banasthali. The entire university structure, hostel, residential complex ete. are located in 650 acres of land. This is partially covered with the compound wall. The Campus need farther development in order to make it as student friendly and user friendly. C. Equipment The University office and offices of the centres, departments etc. are furnished satisfactory. Most of the departments and centres have minimum computers, softwares and other instruments, Student amenties, such as the provision for drinking water and sanitation is made in almost all the buildings but there is scarcity of water. Internet facility through various outlets located in the library, computer centre and elsewhere also is made available. Ae D. Academic Activities From the documents presented to the Committee and through the presentations of university authorities and faculty members, it is observed that the university has been academically quite active and vibrant. The enrolment of students in some departments are confined to single digit. More care need to be taken to enhance the strength of students ix departments like Psychology, History, Political Science, Sociology etc. by appropriate facilitating measures. Commendations Recommendations : Banasthali Vidyapeeth is a university with a difference for women’s education catering to the School level till higher education. The university situated in a rural area has achieved many laurels and contributed to Women’s education against many constraints. It has an enabling environment for academic achievement. The organizational culture with a focus on'“family culture” create a special relationship among the management teachers and students. The institution’s yeomen services to the students coming from different parts of India is appreciated by every one. It is a rare fusion of modernity with the tradition and a high density of value education and simple living. The mission of the university to empower students with holistic education is commendable. ‘The confidence building measures adopted by the management in the ‘curriculum mix’ as well as the co-curricular or ‘panchmukh dimensions’ have a great impact on the students personality. The variety of ‘tournaments’ being conducted, the flying training, horse riding, shooting, the music, arts and dance- all together bring transformation to the students’ personality. ‘The Committee visited all the departments and interacted with the staff, non-teaching staff and students. There were new initiatives in curriculum developments in the degre: programmes. Emerging areas have been incorporated in the certificate programmes witt the vocational orientation. Faculty is making efforts to make the teaching learning proces: attractive and a pleasant experience. There are some points the university need to consider for further improvement. 1. erry Academic : Work load for teachers need to be regulated as per UGC norms . The laboratory facilities need to be strengthened. The Student teacher ratio need to be maintained as per the norms. The in-service teachers may be encouraged to complete Ph.D. programme on war footing . It is essential to introduce the centralized system of examination for various courses for admission purpose. B.Tech/M.Tech. Programmes in Chemical Engineering need to be reviewed. Choice based credit and semester system need to be introduced. Six degree programmes in the department of Bio-Science and Bio-technology overload the system, which may be reviewed. The system needs to be reclassified according to the appropriate regulatory Body’s requirements and jurisdiction. It is applicable to the department of Chemistry / Chemical Engineering also. Itis also desirable to upgrade the skills and knowledge of the in-service employees. Research,Consultancy and Extension Research needs strengthening in terms of research promotion, research output, consultancy, collaboration and research publications. Extension is another area which need attention although there are some initiatives for catering to the farmers of the neighborhood. Students doing research felt the need for having research journals. The number of students assigned to the Ph.D. guides need to be regulated as per UGC norms. Infrastructual Facilities The university needs an auditorium to accommodate the large number of students for various events. The library has a large stock of books, however, new books need to be procured and some disciplines need to have more books and journals... Internet facility is not always available to students and the same need to be upgrade«| and access needs to be created for all faculty and students. Certain conveniences need to be provided to the differently abled students anc employees like ramps, railings, toilets facilities ete. Since this is a residential university of women, more hostel facilities need to be provided to the students. ‘The student amenties like rest room and the , water, toilets facilities need to provide adequately. Students Support The Counseling and placement cell need to be established. Students coming from different backgrounds also require personal counseling. The visual and the print media must be available to the students. It is essential to review the present fee structure for various courses. Funds Utilization The university had been allocated Rs. 3.75 cores under 10" Five Year Plan. The details arc as follows : Building - 124.00 Equipment - 105.00 Staff - 024.00 Books & Journals ~ 063.00 Others - 059.00 The university has fully utilized the amount sanctioned during the 10" Plan Period.
