VACANCY ANOUNCEMENT
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is an international non- profit NGO based in Los
Angeles, California, USA. AHF operates across 45 countries worldwide and has 1.5M+
patients in care, the majority of these being in Africa. AHF Africa comprises 13 country
programs. AHF collaborates with the Governments of these countries through
Ministries /Departments of Health (MoH) to provide cutting edge medicine and free
HIV and AIDS services, including antiretroviral therapy in resource constrained settings.
The organisation now seeks to hire highly competent, dynamic, and experienced persons
to fill the positions below.
LABORATORY TECHNICIAN - 02 POSITIONS
These positions are based at Itojo Hospital & Gulu RR Hospital. The position
provides laboratory oversight and adherence to standard laboratory protocols in the
health care center. Ensures accurate and timely monthly reporting of laboratory
services. Maintain patient confidentiality. Maintain safe working environment in the
laboratory. Directly supervises Laboratory Assistants and provide technical support to
other health workers certified to do HIV testing. Ensure that high quality of laboratory
services is maintained at the healthcare center. The holders of these positions will
perform among others the following duties.
- Periodic review of SOPs
- Participate in specimen collection when required according to test requested,
either directly by venipuncture or skin puncture; maintain responsibility for
patient identification, specimen labelling and collection verification, or
instructing patients or other healthcare providers in collection and
preservation techniques for urine, sputum, stool, scrapings,
autologous/directed donations, or other specimens for analysis.
- Perform and foster proper sample accessioning by matching computer orders
or request forms with specimen labelling; sorting specimens; checking
labelling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; keeping work
surfaces clean and orderly.
- Performs routine laboratory tests including HIV testing, CD4 testing, TB,
Urinalysis, stool analysis, Blood smear examination among others. The pre-
and post-analytic phases are key to performance of the employment.
- Interprets all possible screening and diagnostic test results to the clinical team.
Coordinator.
- Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, verifying
equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced
trouble shooting; calibrating equipment utilizing approved testing procedures;
monitoring quality control measures and protocols for the respective
equipment.
- Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for
performance of duties; clean and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
- Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family,
and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory
records, explain procedures, clarify orders, and communicate status.
- Maintains patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential.
- Prepare and deliver continuous medical education on medical laboratory
services to the clinic members as requested from the team or deemed
necessary.
- Ensures the compilation of monthly laboratory inventory at the facility.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences obtained from a
reputable training institution.
- Minimum of at least 4 years working experience in medical laboratory work
with minimal supervision in intense and competitive working environment
- Must be registered with the Allied Health Professional Council.
LABORATORY ASSISTANT - 01 POSITION
The position is based at Kawolo Hospital. The position holder administers the
collection, receiving, capturing and distribution of all specimens to ensure correct
information is obtained and recorded and to facilitate the speedy processing of
specimens in terms of service objectives. The holder of the position performs among
others the following duties.
- Receiving patients and registration of patient information onto the system and
checks the type of specimen against the test required.
- Carrying out Phlebotomy for different blood tests.
- Guides patients on patient self-collected samples including among other;
sputum, stool, HVS and urine.
 - Receives, labels, and sorts of specimens for testing according to standard
operating procedures.
- Verifying suitability of specimen for processing and rejects unsuitable samples
in accordance with set standard operating procedures.
- Examining routine microscopic tests for disease diagnosis.
- Creating shipping lists of samples for distribution to laboratories to ensure
completeness of audit trail.
- Administering the distribution of specimens to ensure the correct and
prioritized channelling of specimens to the various disciplines.
- Appropriate packaging, recording, monitoring, and of all outgoing referral
specimens to ensure that specimens are received by designated laboratory,
processed, and results returned in a timely.
- Receipt and downloading of electronic referrals to correlate specimen received
with information provided and follow up accordingly, to improve turnaround
time.
- Ensuring quality assurance and quality control for the laboratory environment
guided by ISO 15189.
- Ensuring safety for the llaboratory environment guided by ISO 15190.
- Monitoring, quantification, and requisitioning of stock for reagents and
consumables.
- Compilation and submission of periodic laboratory reports
- Periodic review and implementation of SOPs
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certificate in Medical Laboratory Techniques
- Must be registered with the Allied Health Professional Council
- A minimum of two years of experience in a similar position
CLINICAL OFFICER - 03 POSITIONS
The position is based at Butenga Health Center IV, Rwashameire Health Center
IV, Kakuuto Health Center IV. The Clinical Officer leads the provision of quality
clinical care ensuring right diagnosis and prescription is provided to clients in a timely
manner and makes appropriate referrals for better management of cases. Participates
in capacity building of junior staff through coaching, mentorship and conducting
regular CMEs. The holders of these positions will perform among others the following
duties.
- Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within
prescribed guidelines and instructions of supervisor.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess
patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
- Reviews laboratory test results and other reports.
- Records physical findings and formulates plan and prognosis based on
patient's condition; discusses case with physician and other health
professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
- Prescribes medication or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy,
occupational therapy or related therapeutic procedures, refills medication.
- Supervises nurses, HIV Medics and ART Aides and any other staff.
- Implement MoH and AHF guidelines in providing HIV prevention, care, and
treatment services.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health or its
equivalent from a recognized university/institution.
- Must be registered with the Allied Health Professional Council
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in managing HIV positive patients.
- In-depth knowledge of antiretroviral Therapy as well as the current HIV and
AIDS prevention, care, and treatment guidelines.
LINKAGE & RETENTION ASSISTANT - 01 POSITION
The position is based at Masindi Hospital. The position is an important service based
in the clinic setting and will working with a multidisciplinary team to ensure routine
linkage and retention operations or activities are implemented as per the standard
operating documents/guidelines. The holders of these positions will perform among
others the following duties.
- Work closely with the HIV care/treatment and HIV testing teams to reach
out to HIV positive clients encourage them to come into care and monitor
their linkage and engagement in medical care.
- He/ She will make phone calls, arrange home visits and work with community
structures to reach newly diagnosed HIV positive clients that haven’t been
linked to care and treatment.
- He/ she will make notes and regularly update the appropriate linkage and
retention tools when they contact the client.
- Work with the clinic team to identify, follow-up and support clients that miss
clinic appointments and those that disengage from care.
- In conjunction with Community Tracers, conduct community follow up of
clients that cannot be reached on phone.
- Reach out to partners of clients that recently test HIV positive and invite them
to the clinic for HIV counselling and testing services.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Psychology,
Guidance & Counselling, Social Work & Social Administration, Social
Sciences, Nursing, or a related relevant field.
- Training in HIV and AIDS care and management
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with HIV clients in public
health institutions, community services or medical setting.
- Must have experience working with people living with HIV and AIDS, and or
other chronic illness, substance users, and persons with mental diagnoses.
- Holds a valid driver’s license. Classes A.
STAFF NURSE - 03 POSITIONS
The positions are based at Masindi Hospital (01), Gulu RR Hospital (01),
Nakaseke Hospital. This position provides quality care to patients in a health care
setting. Assists the health care team and may act as a team leader within the scope of
the practice guidelines. The holders of these positions will perform among others the
following duties.
- Provides skilled nursing procedures.
- Administers medication as ordered within the scope of practice of the
licensee.
- Performs phlebotomy and/or initiates intravenous infusions as ordered
(provided is certified)
- Attends and participates in team conferences, meetings, CMEs as required.
- May act as a team leader to assist with the provision and supervision of patient
care.
- May supervise care given by other health workers e.g., HIV Medics, ART
Aides, Maintenance workers, Interns, Phlebotomists etc.
- Charts notes and medication administration according to protocol.
- Provides patient and family education as directed by the clinical team.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of Diploma in nursing obtained from a reputable training
institution.
- Must be registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
- Additional qualification in HIV and AIDS counselling will be an added
advantage.
- Must have at least 3 years of experience providing similar services in a
reputable health facility or organization.
PHARMACY TECHNICIAN - 01 POSITION
This position is based at Tororo Hospital. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible
for providing high-quality pharmaceutical services to all our clients. The incumbent
shall ensure a timely, accurate, and efficient dispensing process, provide relevant
patient advice, and supervise other pharmacy staff as guided by the program
pharmacist. The holders of these positions will perform among others the following
duties.
- Receive and verify all pharmaceutical and healthcare supplies.
- Record all incoming and outgoing inventory transactions.
- Conduct periodic physical inventory counts to update inventory records and
generate inventory utilization reports.
- Prepare and submit bi-monthly ART commodity orders and reports as per the
designated warehouse delivery schedule.
- Forecast and quantify pharmaceutical supplies to support the management of
opportunistic infections and non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
- Prepare and dispense prescribed ART and TB commodities.
- Provide appropriate patient counselling to ensure treatment adherence and
continuity of care.
- Support the scale-up of the Community Retail Pharmacy Drug Distribution
Point program.
- Supervise and mentor other healthcare professionals engaged in dispensing
medicines.
- Pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting
- Monitor patients to identify and report any adverse drug reactions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of Diploma in Pharmacy or the equivalent obtained from a
reputable training institution.
- Must be registered with the Allied Health Professional Council with a valid
annual practicing license.
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience in the HIV/AIDS commodity
supply chain in Uganda.
- Knowledge of the National TB and HIV commodity supply chain system is an
added advantage.
- Demonstrable skills in the use of electronic inventory management systems.
