The Constitution of the United States of America is the supreme law of the country, ratified on

September 17, 1787. It consists of a preamble and seven articles:

Preamble:

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure
domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the
Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the
United States of America."

Article I: Legislative Branch

- Section 1: All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which
shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

- Section 2: Defines the House of Representatives.

- Section 3: Defines the Senate.

- Section 4: Addresses elections, meetings, and procedures of Congress.

- Section 5: Addresses rules, journals, and adjournment of Congress.

- Section 6: Addresses compensation, privileges, and restrictions of members of Congress.

- Section 7: Addresses revenue bills, passage of bills, and the veto process.

- Section 8: Enumerates the powers of Congress.

- Section 9: Lists prohibitions on Congress.

- Section 10: Lists prohibitions on the states.

Article II: Executive Branch

- Section 1: Establishes the office of the President and Vice President, their election, and qualifications.

- Section 2: Enumerates powers of the President.

- Section 3: Outlines duties of the President.

- Section 4: Addresses impeachment of the President and other civil officers.


Article III: Judicial Branch

- Section 1: Establishes the Supreme Court and lower federal courts.

- Section 2: Defines the jurisdiction of the federal courts.

- Section 3: Defines treason and its punishment.

Article IV: States' Relations

- Section 1: Full faith and credit clause.

- Section 2: Privileges and immunities clause; extradition.

- Section 3: Admissions of new states and management of federal property.

- Section 4: Guarantees a republican form of government for the states.

Article V: Amendment Process

- Outlines the process for amending the Constitution.

Article VI: Supremacy Clause

- Establishes the Constitution and federal laws as the supreme law of the land.

Article VII: Ratification

- Outlines the process for ratifying the Constitution.

Additionally, there are 27 amendments to the Constitution, with the first ten collectively known as the
Bill of Rights. These amendments cover a range of rights and protections, including freedom of speech,
religion, and the press; the right to bear arms; protections against unreasonable search and seizure;
rights to due process and a fair trial; and protections against cruel and unusual punishment.
