V. What’s In

Drugs are chemical substances that can change how your body and
mind work. They include prescription medicines, over-the-counter
medicines, alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs. The use of drugs among high
school students remains a concerning issue today. Despite widespread
efforts in drug education and prevention, many adolescents continue to
experiment with and use drugs, posing risks to their health, academic
performance, and overall well-being.
Factors contributing to drug use among high school students:
• peer influence, curiosity, stress, and accessibility to substances.
• Social media and cultural influences also play a significant role in
shaping attitudes towards drug use, sometimes glamorizing or
normalizing its consumption.

Drug education plays a crucial role in promoting awareness, understanding,

and responsible decision-making regarding drug use. It empowers
individuals to make informed choices that prioritize their health and well-
being.

Importance of Positive Behavior in Drug Education:

Positive behavior is fundamental as it cultivates a mindset of self-

respect, responsibility, and resilience. By embracing positive behaviors,
individuals are better equipped to resist peer pressure, make healthy
choices, and maintain a drug-free lifestyle. It fosters a supportive
environment that encourages open dialogue and seeks solutions to address
drug-related challenges effectively.

Role of Personal Values, Decision Making Skills, and Resilience:

Personal values serve as guiding principles that shape individuals'
attitudes and behaviors towards drug use. Decision-making skills empower
individuals to assess risks, weigh consequences, and make choices aligned
with their values and goals. Resilience enables individuals to bounce back
from setbacks, cope with stressors, and persevere in their commitment to
making healthy choices, even in the face of temptation or adversity.
Together, these factors form a strong foundation for individuals to navigate
the complexities of drug-related situations and lead fulfilling, drug-free lives.
Positive behavior has a significant impact on reducing drug usage in several
ways:
1. Resilience against peer pressure.
2. Healthy coping mechanisms.
3. Strong support networks.
4. Goal-Oriented behavior.
5. Increased awareness and education.
Positive behavior serves as a protective factor against drug usage by
promoting resilience, healthy coping mechanisms, strong support networks,
goal-oriented behavior, and increased awareness. By cultivating positive
behavior, individuals are better equipped to resist the pressures and
temptations associated with drug use, leading to healthier and more
fulfilling lives.
