Getting an appetite for engineering

28th to 29th Nov. 2007 at The Chesford Grange
Hotel
Appetite for Engineering is a major new national event – co-sponsored by
Schneider Electric - aimed at educating food processing companies about
scope for automation within the industry. The event is organised by the trade
press publisher IML in conjunction with its magazine Food Processing, The
University of Salford, PPMA and The Food Processing Faraday. The event takes
place on 28 and 29 November 2007 at The Chesford Grange Hotel,
Warwickshire.

Mr Cevn Vibert of Silchester Controls, a partner of Schneider Electric, presents a

paper describing a recent and on-going implementation of a plant wide control
system for the primary processes and packaging of crispbreads for Ryvita.
Extensive use has been made of Schneider Electric automation and control
equipment throughout the project. The project has improved Ryvita’s manufacturing
monitoring and management reporting, aiding both output and quality.

A complete control solution is managed under a SCADA system while additional

functions and equipment upgrades have been effected using industrial fieldbus
networks, AC drives, PLCs and HMIs.

There is also the chance for delegates to discuss the latest automation equipment
from Schneider Electric at an accompanying exhibition.

Alongside the Appetite for Engineering event, is the establishment of a UK Centre

for Robotics and Automation set up by Yorkshire Forward, the DTI and University of
Salford to be based in South Yorkshire. This too is supported by Schneider Electric
as a sponsor and will give food manufacturers the opportunity to seek impartial
advice about automation possibilities within their processes.
