Invitation Letter for Simulation of The Online Competition

Dear online competition participants,

Thank you for registering in JISMO Online Autumn 2023.

If you want to understand how the competition will be conducted or how to use Zoom and Google Form
simultaneously, you can join the simulation of JISMO Autumn 2023. It will only take 20 - 30 minutes.
You can even join it several times to gain more confidence and experience. We will conduct the
simulation every Tuesday and Thursday starting from 5 Sep ’23 – 2 Nov ’23, however public holiday is
not included.

 Note: During the simulation, there will only be a fun mock test provided. It is not related to
maths/science questions for the Olympiads. We hold the simulation from the following time. Be
punctual with the scheduled time. We will start the simulation timely and will not admit anyone
who joins late.

for JISMO Online Autumn 2023
Dear Teachers and Parents,

Thank you for registering your children in JISMO Online Autumn 2023.
In order for participants to join the competition without anxiety, please read the following
competition guidance and rules carefully and explain to them prior to the competition. We
also need your support to provide a quiet and comfortable environment for participants to
concentrate on the exam during the competition.

Requirements to Join JISMO Online Autumn 2023

Ensure that you meet the following requirements in order to participate in the online
competition:
* Have access to 2 devices: Device 1 is to operate Google Form and display participant’s
face during the competition. Device 2 to show participant’s upper body and working table,
at their residence. Arrange the positioning of Device 1 and Device 2 so that the upper body
and face are clearly visible for monitoring. Avoid backlighting as participants' faces may be
facing a bright window.
* Proficiency in independently operating Zoom and Google Form is necessary.
* Participants must use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers to log in to their
participant's email. Have your email and password ready to log in to the browser in case
there are any requirements from the Google Form during the test.
* Your Zoom account must display your registered name for JISMO Autumn '23.
* It is essential to have a stable and strong internet connection.
Make sure all these requirements are fulfilled to ensure a smooth and successful participation
in the competition.

Online Competition Time Schedule
Maths

Before the Competition Day

1. JISMO Committee will send Zoom meeting link, ID, password device 1 and Zoom
meeting link, ID, password device 2 to participants’ registered email addresses 1 day
prior to the competition date.

2. Participants should log in to the participant's email using Google Chrome or Microsoft
Edge browsers. Please prepare the email and password that are used to log into the
browser in anticipation of any requirements from the Google Form in case there are
issues during the test.

3. Join simulation of JISMO Autumn 2023 if you want to understand how the competition
will be conducted or how to use two Zoom and Google Form simultaneously, For
registering, visit our Google link, https://bit.ly/simulationautumn23 to get the time
schedule. Participants must access 2 devices, device 1 to operate Google Form and
the other to show the participant’s face during the competition and device 2 to show
participant’s upper body and desk, at their residence.

4. Participants must ensure the camera setting (device 1)
to show their face via Zoom on the competition day.

and desk via Zoom on the competition day.

6. Registration fee is non-refundable for absence of participant under any circumstances.

On the Competition Day

1. JISMO Committee will invite participants by resending Zoom meeting link, ID,
password device 1 and Zoom meeting link, ID, password device 2 to participants’
registered email addresses at the following time on the competition day.

2. Participants must have access to 2 devices, device 1 to operate Google Form and
the other to show the participant’s face during the competition and device 2 to show
participant’s upper body and desk, at their residence and access Zoom device 1 and
Zoom device 2 at least 40 minutes before the exam. Please always ensure that the
video is turned on and the voice is muted in Zoom on both devices.

3. Arrange the positioning of device 1 and device 2 so that the upper body and face are
clearly visible for monitoring. Avoid backlighting as participants' faces may be facing
a bright window.

4. Please make sure that the batteries of both devices are fully charged, or alternatively,
please prepare the charger.

5. Participants should make sure that they are already logged in to their email using
Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers. Please prepare the email and password
that are used to log into the browser in anticipation of any requirements from the
Google Form in case there are issues during the test.

6. JISMO invigilators will explain competition rules to participants.

7. Participants use Google Form for the exam questions. JISMO invigilators will inform
them the link through Zoom Chat device 1 15 minutes before the commencement of
the exam.

8. Participants will do re-registration by filling up their names, registration number, etc.


in Google Form. Participants shall open Zoom and Google Form simultaneously
during the competition. Participants can minimize Zoom screen and maximize Google
Form screen by following the instruction below. Go to JISMO invigilator’s screen and
click “Pin Video” then click “Minimize”.

9. Participants must share screen in Zoom after opening Google Form. In case of not
sharing the screen during the competition, participants will be disqualified without
warning. -->

10. Participants must go to the toilet before the exam.


11. Participants shall not switch off video during the competition. This will result in
disqualification.
12. Participants must be punctual with the exam time schedule. JISMO will start the exam
timely and will not admit anyone who joins late.

During The Competition

during the exam.
2. The duration of the competition is 60 minutes per subject. Participants are allowed to
leave the competition at any time after submitting the complete answers and switching
off Zoom. Make sure to click “Submit” button and see closing page appears. Once
participants left the competition, they are not allowed to re-access the Google Form
link or re-join the Zoom meeting.
3. In case of lost WIFI connection, if the cause is from JISMO side, JISMO shall secure

4. Participants are allowed to drink water during the exam. However, foods are not
allowed.

Participants may be disqualified for the following actions:

1. Failing to share their screen and enable the camera on device 1, not turning on the
video on device 2, not muting themselves, using Zoom's background feature, or
switching off Zoom during the examination.

2. Using calculator, handphone, dictionary, protractor, or ruler during the exam.

3. Leaving participants’ computers for more than 5 minutes during the exam. In case of
leaving the computers, participants shall finish the competition by submitting the
answers and switching off Zoom. This rule is applied for toilet break and WIFI
connection trouble in participants’ place.
4. Making strange movements such as hiding from the screen, making eye contact to
somebody in their places, making noise, etc.
5. Getting help from participants’ family members or friends to answer the questions
during the exam.
6. Closing Google Form both subconsciously and intentionally and loosing WIFI
connection for more than 5 minutes.

Questions and Scores

For grades 2 and 3 in both Maths and Science papers, there will be 22 multiple choice
questions which carry a total of 110 marks. No mark will be given or no deduction for wrong
answers and/or unanswered questions.

For grades 4-6 in both Maths and Science papers, there will be 20 multiple choice
questions and 2 short answer questions which carry a total of 110 marks. No mark will be
given or no deduction for wrong answers and/or unanswered questions. In short answers,
marks will be given according to, where applicable, equation, reasoning capabilities, problem
solving approach, and final answer.

Thank you for registering your children in JISMO Offline Autumn 2023.
In order for participants to join the competition without anxiety, please read the following
competition guidance and rules carefully and explain to them prior to the competition. We
also need your support to re-register them on the competition day at the venue.

Re-registration : 7:30 – 11:00


Maths paper : 9:00 – 10:00
Recess : 10:00 – 10:30

Re-registration Process at Venues

• For Individual Registration

Ͳ Participants shall submit photocopy of their school identification cards to JISMO during
re-registration process in order to prove that grades and schools that they registered are
the same as their identification cards.

• For School Registration

Ͳ There will be re-registration desk in each venue. On behalf of participants, school


teachers shall submit photocopy of their school identification cards to JISMO during re-
registration process in order to prove that grades and schools that they registered are
the same as their identification cards.

Ͳ Teachers need to take attendance sheet from the re-registration desk. In case of non-
attendance, please report to JISMO before the end of the competition.

• For Both Individual and School

Ͳ Registration sticker will be provided during re-registration process. All participants must
attach the registration sticker on their chest to enter classrooms.

Ͳ Registration fee is non-refundable for absence of participant under any circumstances.

Test Paper

1. Question sheets and an answer sheet will be provided by instructor before


commencement of the test.

During The Competition

1. Participants should bring only pencils and eraser to the classroom. It is recommended
that they bring at least 2 pencils with them. The rest of the things like ruler, calculator,
pen, bags, etc have to be left outside the classroom.

2. Participants are not allowed to leave the classroom before the test ends.

3. Test paper and answer sheet will be collected by the JISMO invigilators after participants
finish the test. In other words, they are not allowed to bring them home.
4. After the test, participants shall wait for instruction from the JISMO invigilators to leave
classroom. They are allowed to go home with caregivers after Maths test. However,
participants who take Science test after Maths shall move to the next classroom by
following instruction from the JISMO invigilators. The participants are allowed to eat
snacks during recess.
