Concept Grid – Helpful Tips

 A concept grid helps you to create different key terms (words) that you will use within your search strategy to find sources for your
research. The topic, and your chosen context help inform these terms. Under each concept, add synonyms for similar terms to ensure
your search is comprehensive and widespread.
 If you are having trouble finding sources for your research, but have found one exemplar text covering your topic, use key words from
this article to inform some of your concepts in your search strategy. Most journal articles have a “key terms” section under the article
abstract.
 Phrase searching: You can add quotation marks around specific phrases you would like searched for together. Only articles that show
that phrase will be retrieved. For example, “health funding”.
 Truncations: The truncation symbol (usually an asterisk *) is useful for finding different endings of a word. For example, Australia* will
retrieve results for Australia, Australian, Australians, Australia’s etc.
