Alongside this development, the main brands have developed new products, such as
innovations of D'onofrio via its emblematic brands Sublime, Princesa and Morochas and even
the various flavours of Frio Rico. As a result, these brand extensions offer familiar ice cream
versions of highly valued products from their chocolate confectionery, cookies, or impulse ice
cream ranges including Frio Rico in cone, which can also be found in 1-litre containers.
Ice cream sales grow in the forecast period thanks to higher demand
and greater dynamism among industry players, with innovations and
production improving
It is expected that sales of ice cream will continue to grow significantly in the forecast period,
both in volume and value terms. The main players will continue to make significant efforts,
especially the category leader, therefore the category is set to be highly dynamic even if it is to
cover current demand. Growth is expected to be higher in single portion dairy ice cream as
consumers who have resumed their normal lifestyles will seek to consume more ice cream on
impulse, for which it is anticipated that various brands will continue to invest in this category.
The climatic factor of higher temperatures could also influence an increase in sales, which
could be significantly evident in 2023 and the following year, due to the strong heat that has
been experienced in Peru, and which could extend the summer season. Moreover, given that
there have been no extreme winters in recent years, it is likely that the consumption of ice
cream could become less seasonal.
One aspect that could negatively affect sales, however, is the economy as the low level of
growth of the Peruvian economy and lack of formal employment could lead consumers to

prioritise their expenses towards the most essential products. Therefore, the pleasure of
consuming ice cream could become less frequent or be characterised by lower quantities.
Street stalls sees recovery in line with rising demand and the growing
use of electronic wallets for digital payments
Street stalls/kiosks in ice cream in Peru has always been a very important channel in enabling
the product to reach consumers. Ice cream carts are active in this channel, as well as people
who walk with refrigerated boxes slung over their shoulders through streets and beaches. This
channel was greatly affected by the pandemic due to the prohibition of the free movement of
people, as well as the concern of consumers to eat ice cream on the go for fear of COVID-19
contamination. The reduction of restrictions on the mobility of people and their return to normal
activities outside the home has boosted this channel significantly since 2022, although it has yet
to recover to pre-pandemic sales levels.
The dynamism of the category and product innovations will contribute to the fact that street
stalls/kiosks could grow significantly, which will be especially important for the D'onofrio brand.
This brand is concerned about maintaining the image of the street vendor with the
corresponding uniform, the use of the traditional trumpets that announce their passage through
the streets and beaches, and in case of ice cream carts, umbrellas, all of which feature well
designed branding.
Another factor that could contribute to its greater dynamism is that ice cream vendors have
been successfully using electronic wallets to facilitate consumers’ digital payments, such as
Yape and Plin, in order to capture consumers who do not use money and prefer digital
payments.
