Born in the South Side of Chicago, drill became a worldwide success in 2012, with the figure of

American rapper Chief Keef. His rap is characterised by extreme violence and minimalist, dark
productions dominated by drums.
Drill music lyrics are often crude, describing life in disadvantaged neighbourhoods in a precise and
realistic way and advocating violence at its worst, and sometimes even rape.
Indeed, the aim is to take the violence as far as possible, even to the point of describing in detail a
murder that the Driller himself has committed, and listing all his victims.

Drillers appear in their clips with their faces masked, wearing gloves and very wide tops and
bottoms so that no part of their bodies is visible. They also display all kinds of weapons, from
baseball bats, metal bars and hammers to knives, machetes and sabres, right through to firearms,
All these characteristics are the main codes of the drill.

However, all the violence recounted in this music stems from their daily lives, which take the form
of murders, wars between gangs, often in the same city or in neighbouring neighbourhoods (such as
the Englewood or Woodlawn neighbourhoods on Chicago's South Shore, and the Brooklyn or
Bronx neighbourhoods in New York), as well as other crimes such as armed robbery and drug
dealing.

All these conflicts and acts of violence have an impact on the people living in the surrounding area,
who live in constant fear, who witness shootings and who may even be victims of them.

But the most worrying thing about this movement is that it's very well known, and that it spread to
Europe, England and South America, with clips that exceed 10 million views, and that the vast
majority of its viewers are young people aged between 15 and 22, who can therefore be influenced
and reproduce certain gestures and adopt certain attitudes, characters or mentalities because they
think it's "cool".

We want the drill to be more controlled and more limited, and to do this we are calling for age limits
on certain clips, the removal of clips that are too violent, the censorship of certain lyrics that are too
violent and the arrest of those who make confessions of murder or other crimes in their songs.
