Chapter 6

Questions:

1- What was the secret that Uriah told David?

He wanted to marry Agnes

2- What did Miss Murdstone tell David?

She told him that it’s not necessary to tell about the past and he agreed on that.

3- What has Emily done? Why?

She ran away with Steerforth. She wanted to marry her and to be a lady.

4- Finally, David understood Steerforth’s true colour. Explain.

He knew that Steerforth was a bad person he deceived everyone and took Emily
from her fiancé.

5- “I am helping him because I admire him.”, Comment.

These words were said by Uriah Heep to David when he was at David’s flat to tell
him that he was going to be Mr. Wieckfield’s partner.

6- “I am quite happy here with the people who rent me the house.”,
Comment.

These words were said by Traddles to David when David visited Traddles at his
home for the first time.

7- “I’ve some bad news for you. It’s old Barkis. He’s very ill.”, Comment.

These words were said by Steerforth to David in London when Steerforth told
David that old Barkis was very ill, so David went to Yarmouth, to be with
Peggotty.

8- “You have no best or worst for me.”, Comment.

These words were said by David to Steerforth when Steerforth asked him to
promise that David will remember him at his best.

9- “I would have died for her.”, Comment.

These words were said by Ham to David when Ham received Emily’s letter, which
she sent to Ham to tell him that she was leaving with Steerforth to marry him
and be a lady.

10- “Who is the man? I want to know his name!”, Comment.

These words were said by Mr. Peggotty to Ham and David when he heard the
letter of Emily and knew that she escaped with someone to marry him and to be a
lady.

Chapter 7

Answer the following questions:

1-David and Peggotty saw Mr. Murdstone at Mr. Spenlow office, what Mr.
Murdstone was doing there, how David and Peggotty felt about him.

Mr. Murdstone was at Mr. Spenlow office to get a marriage license as he was
getting married again. David felt soory for his bride and Peggotty was rude to
him

2-Aunt Betsey had such a dramatic change in her life. Elaborate.

Aunt Betsey had a lot of money and Mr. Wickfield, her lawyer helped her to
invest it wisely, but he became careless, so she decided to invest her money by
herself.

3-Both Agnes & Dora affected David’s life. Explain.

Agnes always advised David when he needed that. He advised David to share his
flat with his aunt and Mr. Dick could rent a room. She also advised Davis to work
with Dr. Strong as a secretary to work at his house.

Dora represents a love to David as he loves her and wanted to marry her. When
her birthday, he went shopping and bought a new suit and new boots. He also
hired a horse to ride down to Norwood.

4- “Why do you think I’m sitting on my cases?” Comment

Aunt Betsey said that to David when he brought her suitcases to David's flat
because she lost all her money

5- “His influence over my father is far too great now.” Comment.

Agnes said that to David when they wwere talking about Uriah Heep that he
controlled her father a lot and always encourages him to drink a lot and to be
careless in his work.

6- “What a lot of mistakes I made! I wish I know where it’s gone!”


Comment.

Aunt Betsey said that to David and Agnes in David's flat when she told David
that she lost all her money when she decided to invest her money by herself.

7- “What would I do without you? You are my good angel!” Comment.

David said that to Agnes when she advised him to work with at Dr Strong as a
secretary to work at his house. She also advised him to share his flat with his
aunt and Mr. Dick could rent a room.

Chapter 8

Answer the following questions:

1-Miss Murdstone, once more, tried to ruin David’s life. Explain.

Mr. Spenlow had found out the secret between David and Dora as Mrs.
Murdstone told Mr. Spenlow about their love.

2-Agnes’ advice helped David a lot, how?

She always advised him when he need that, she advised David not to do anything
in secret anymore and to write to Dora's aunts to enable him to see Dora.

3- “That means that something has turned up for them.” Comment.

David said that to Tommy Traddles when Tommy told David that the Micawbers
are moving to Canterbury.

4- “I know it wasn’t right to keep it secret.” Comment.

David said that to Mr. Spenlow when he asked Miss Murdstone to show David his
letters to Dora. So he decided to tell Mr. Spenlow that he loves his daughter and
he wanted to marry her.

5- “You shouldn’t do anything in secret anymore.” Comment.

Agnes said that to David when he asked her for advice because he can't see Dora
as she lives with her two aunts and he cannot contact her.

Agnes said that to David when she told him she never agree to marry that evil
creature "Uriah Heep "

Chapter (9)

Answer the following questions:

1-Dora wasn’t a good housewife. Do you agree or not?

No, she wasn’t as she has no experience in managing her house, she can’t cook or
control the servants, as she was still young.

2-Mr. Peggotty could find Emily, Explain.

Mr. Peggotty Knew that Emily and Steerforth travelled to Italy. He became tired
of her and she didn't know what to do or where to go, so she came back to
London. Then he found her on a bridge, hopeless and exhausted, looking down into
the river.

3- “If I’d met Agnes as a friend when I was younger.” Comment.

Dora said that to David when Agnes visited them in London and Dora was
frightened to meet her because she knew that Agnes was more cleaver than her
in everything, and that she was childish.

4- “No doubt we think you like her very much.” Comment.

Ms Lavinia (Dora's aunt) said that to David when she invited him to visit Dora
because David asked her to see Dora.

5- “Because nobody can ever see you and stop himself from falling in love
with you.” Comment.

David said that to Dora when she asked him why he fell in love with her.

6-“I’ve come to tell you- ………I’ve found her.” Comment.

Mr. Peggotty said that to David when he told David that he found Emily in London.

7-“Poor Ham will never be the same again.” Comment.

Mr. Peggotty said that to David when he told David that he and Emily will go to
Australia to live there to start a new life together. Ham wouldn't travel with
them because his heart was still broken of what has Dora done.

Chapter (10)

Answer the following questions:

1-Why did Mr. Micawber lost his self-respect, what did he tell Traddles and
David, what they did with Uriah?

Because of the villainy, fraud and conspiracy of Uriah Heep. He said he had been
under an evil spell of Uriah. He must expose Heep.

2-What secret did Agnes keep from David for a long time? Why did she keep
that secret?

The secret is that she has loved David all of her life. Because he married Dora. At
first he considered her as his sister, then he realized that he loved her so much.

3-At the end of the story, we realized that “Good is rewarded and evil is
punished. Explain mentioning Uriah, Steerforth, Emily, Mr. Mickawber and
Agnes.

Agnes and David got married and Mickawber had a letter that proved of
accusation of Heep's forgery of Mr. Wickfield's signature to take his money. Mr
Mickawber returned to his family as a happy man. He travelled to Australia with
Mr. Peggotty to find work there. Heep was forced to leave Mr. Wickfield house.
Steerforth was dead. Emily and Mr. Peggotty travelled to Australia to start a new
life there.

4-“I will lead this life no longer!”, Comment.

Mr. Micawber said that to David and Traddles because he was under the effect
of "Heep" and that he knew and had proven papers that Uriah was a thief and a
fraud.

5-“Did you hear me not to wait?”, Comment.

Heep said that to Mr. Micawber in Mr. Wickfield house and Heep asked Micawber
to leave the room but Micawber didn't move.

6- “If my time has come, so be it.”, Comment.

These words were said by Ham to David when David tried to prevent him from

rescuing the man in the sea.
