Aedas’ work at Manchester Airport continues with the

redevelopment of Terminal 1, which will provide a premium
terminal for full service airlines and stimulate future growth.
Further pier development will accommodate long and short haul
air travel, including new large aircraft operations.
Spanning two levels, an A380 lounge will simplify the boarding
process and minimise turn-around time to increase efficiency.
Flexible stand layouts between narrow and wide-bodied aircraft
ensure maximum passenger throughput of the pier to increase
thelevel of service for airport customers.

The Terminal 2 is located adjacent to the existing Hong Kong International Airport
Passenger Terminal Building. This project provides expanded passenger facilities,
serving as the transportation hub and 'town square' of SkyCity, the commercial
development at Chek Lap Kok. This SOM Aedas JV project also includes a Coach
Station, an Automated Passenger Movement Rail System and a new Airport Express
Link Platform. Terminal 2 is a building of quality, architectural distinction and unique
identity.
As part of the Terminal 2 development, two 10-storey office buildings have been
constructed, one of which accommodates the Airport Authority’s Headquarter
operations. Aedas Interiors designed the office space on all the typical floors.

In 1998, Aedas designed the 3-storey Asia Airfreight Terminal 1,

which allows goods to be transferred and processed efficiently
between landside and airside. The functional requirements are
satisfied by maximising the landside frontage of the building
for the loading and offloading of materials and arranging
accommodation within to allow a simple, unobstructed through-
flow to the processing areas.
In 2003, Aedas was re-commissioned to design Asia Airfreight
Terminal 2, a 117,500m2 extension located on the South of the
Terminal 1 which comprises 3-storey office building on top of a
3-storey truck park with an adjacent 4-storey cargo processing
area.

In the Phase 2 of the DHL Central Asia Hub Expansion,
Aedas is both the Architect and Authorized Person to
implement the project. The completed Phase I and Phase
2 Expansion operate as DHL’s major hub and gateway in
the Asia-Pacific region to accommodate its future business
requirements. The Phase 2 development comprised a new area
for the ground floor of approximately 10,573m2. The airside
and landside parking areas are extended to maintain goods
vehicle connectivity to the new expansion. The building has
been functionally designed to achieve the seamless operation
of the CAH and provision of the services under DHL’s Franchise
Agreement with Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK).

The new Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal occupies a site area

of approximately 10-hectares in the Hong Kong International
Airport and will be equipped with a state-of-the art Materials
Handling System (MHS) that can handle an annual air cargo
through a capacity of 2.6 million tones. The huge adoption
of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in this project
allows efficient coordination between all main disciplines
(architectural, structural, E&M, MHS, etc.), the facility is
scheduled to start operations in 2012-2013. This project was
awarded Autodesk HK Revit BIM Award 2008. Aedas received
the Revit BIM Experience Award 2007 from Autodesk America
for our use of Revit Architecture software to create remarkable
buildings around the world.

Tradeport Logistics Centre is a 34,200m2 logistics centre at

Hong Kong International Airport. The building houses a logistics
operation whereby goods entering and leaving the logistics centre
receive value added processing. Three construction floors of
11,000m2 are served by lorry docks on two floors and cargo lifts on
all floors. Office space is provided on mezzanine floors overlooking
the lorry docks. The building was expanded to 45,000m2 by the
addition of a 4th floor.

Dubai Metro is the first metro system in the United Arab

Emirates and also the longest and most advanced automated
metro in the world. Aedas designed the system’s 45 stations,
two depots and operational centers. There are three above
ground station designs: Type 1 ground level stations, Type
2 elevated stations, and Type 3 ground level stations with 3
tracks. While the Type 3 stations are wider with asymmetrical
structure, all above ground stations retain a similar aesthetic.
There are various designs for the ten underground stations, with
the largest being Union Square and Burjuman which provide
interchange between the Red & Green Lines.

Terminal 8 West comprises a 6-storey administration building,
entry and exit gatehouses and canopies, maintenance building and
ancillary facilities. The buildings were designed not only to respond
to the utilitarian nature of their function but to also capitalise on
their highly exposed site adjacent to the proposed Route 3 and
Hong Kong Island beyond.

Terminal 8 East consists of an administration / maintenance

building of approximately 20,000m2 gross floor area, two
gatehouses and canopies of 1,500 m2 gross floor area each, LPG
store, underground diesel tanks and pump installation, civil works
and ancillary facilities. The site was reclaimed land which required
careful staging to enable the building construction to keep pace
with the land availability.

Hong Kong International Distribution Centre at Terminal 4

in Kwai Chung has an area of 506,743m2. It consists of 10 levels
of container storage and warehousing with full truck access
throughout the premises. The form of the building is derivative
of its function. The building illustrates an aesthetic solution to
a utilitarian development, creating an articulated architectural
statement able to withstand exposure to its marine environment.

The design achieves an elegant, economic and simple, yet iconic

structure that sits comfortably in the Liffey Valley landscape
without dominating it or altering its character.
There are no structural projections above the deck; no supporting
cables or masts; no clutter: only the handrails and overhead
power stanchions and wires from the railway which will be for
the most part invisible. The deck has a tapered edge section
designed to make it appear even more slender, whilst at the same
time providing wind protection for pedestrians and cyclists at
high level. It crosses the valley like a blade of white light making
contact with the ground via slender white concrete V piers.

Government of Dubai RTA who recognise the benefits of a fully
integrated public transport network for the sustainable future
of the city. A key objective of the RTA is for 30% of trips to be
by public transport by 2020. The RTA have a range of projects
underway to achieve this goal and Aedas is honoured to be
playing their part as the Architect for the Al Safooh Tram
System - the next step in the fully inegrated public transport
