JALEN ROSE T.

SALDUA
The Marikina City Government's CENTEX (Center for Excellence) program offers free skill
training to residents in technical skills and values formation, customer service, and group
enterprise formation such as cooperatives.
It provides training for government agencies and organized sectors in city
administration, but charges for materials and handouts for training programs for clients
from the industrial or commercial sectors, as well as professional organizations.
Through its continuing education program for teachers, CENTEX is also tasked with
contributing to the improvement of the public education system. “Teaching Strategies”
and “Strategic Management for Educators” are two of the short courses available.
Seminars and courses offered by CENTEX in collaboration with various agencies provide
local citizens with a comprehensive set of employability tools. They also provide training
in entrepreneurial skills in order to help people find work not only as employees but also as
entrepreneurs.
CENTEX offers ‘lifelong learning,' which includes literacy and ‘good citizenship,' to
recruits who lack even basic education.
The anti-discrimination ordinance or Marikina City Ordinance No. 065 was passed to
promote social justice and to provide equal rights and protection, especially for the
LGBTQ+ community.
The passage and enforcement of the anti-discrimination ordinance will give everyone
equal rights for employment, education, housing, and other government services.
The local government unit of Marikina City will be known as an inclusive community.
With the ordinance, the local government unit institutionalized the Sexual Orientation,
Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill.
The eco-savers program is Marikina city’s innovative recycling scheme, which
promotes a culture of discipline among young people through ecological solid waste
management.
The program has stirred the consciousness and curiosity of the community, thereby
promoting waste segregation and recycling practices at the household level and
amongst young people.
The program has encouraged the involvement of parents, paving the way for regular
interaction with teachers and city government personnel. Such regular interaction
resulted in the generation of inputs and suggestions for relevant program strategies
from the stakeholders.
Educating the community and getting its members to practice ecological solid waste
management is vital to the preservation of health and the environment.
The program has made the constituents feel the presence of the city government,
especially on the aspect of waste management, thereby strengthening their faith in their
government.
