·The most impressive technological
advances of the Olmecs was their use
of irrigation in their farms.

The Olmecs farmed using irrigation

techniques. The area in Mexico that
they inhabited was moist, so the land
was fertile, especially along the
region's many rivers. Making skilled
use of irrigation allowed Olmec
agriculture to sustain their large
society. Their primary crop was maize.
·The developed drainage systems in
their cities.

Water Drainage- Near the Olmec town

of San Lorenzo, archaeologists
discovered a complicated drainage
system made of conduits (a channel
for transporting water or other fluid).
Stones were carved into a shape
similar to a "U" and then covered with
a capstone.
