The Dimagiba family and the Soriano family are introduced as friendly neighbors in a close-knit
community. They gather for a feast sharing laughter and stories, but also discussing the challenges they
face, such as inflation and the jeepney phase-out. Teresa, a young idealistic girl, shares her admiration
to our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal and his belief in the youth as hope of the nation. The arrival of
Guwardiya Sibil (portraying Spanish colonization) disrupts their peaceful lives, as they witness
oppression and violence also causing trouble upon their neighbors. Teresa’s friend, Tina, experiences the
loss of her father, Dadong, who is taken away by the soldiers.
Teresa’s father, Tirso, decides to join the protest against the oppressive regime, leaving Teresa and her
mother, Rosita, behind. Teresa expresses her fear and uncertainty about seeing her father again, but he
assures her of his love and promises to fight for their family. Tirso is tragically shot by the soldiers,
witnessed by Rosita and Teresa, leaving them devastated. The soldiers then target Rosita, and she
sacrifices herself to protect Teresa, who witnesses her mother’s brutal death. Teresa left alone, filled with
grief, anger, and burning desire for justice.
Teresa, now a young woman, shares her monologue about her trauma and experiences, expressing her
determination to fight for justice and her feeling of emotional death. This community joins together in a
powerful protest against the soldiers, singing songs of resistance and empowerment. Teresa delivers a
passionate speech about the importance of women’s empowerment and the need to stand up against
discrimination and injustice. The play ends with a hopeful message, as the community vows to continue
the fight for a better future.
This story is inspired and a combination of Historical Experiences and Present Views. It aims to explore
importance of learning from history to shape a better future.

(The Dimagiba Family, Soriano Family, and the mamamayan are having a friendly neighborhood
gathering, chatting about their daily lives, with the children playing together.)
Rosita: The food is ready! How was everyone’s day today? Anything interesting happening?
Dadong: Oh, you know, the usual. Works, errands, and taking care of kids. It’s always busy, but we
manage.
Ka-Andeng: I agree! Life can be tiring… (Laughing) But Rosita, your adobo is always the best!
Rosita: (Smiling) Thank you! Go ahead and eat. Remember you can’t live a full life on an empty
stomach.
(Ka-Andeng smiled as well to Rosita while the children’s laughter fills the air as they play together.)

Mamamayan 4: Yes, jeepney drivers like you are concerned about their livelihoods.
Tirso: I agree. The jeepneys are a part of our culture and transportation system.

mourn and lean on her husband, Tina was hugging her father for the last time with a hopeless face.)
Soldiers: (scare Tina and Ka-Andeng)
(Tina was left alone on the stage)
*Tina sing You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me (grief)

SCENE 3: The Decision to Fight – Empowered by History, Driven by the Present

(Teresa was looking for her mom and dad, hearing the noise; guns and explosions)
Teresa: (scared walking left to right) Huh?
Teresa: Mom? Dad? Where are you?
(Hearing again the loud noise alone)
Teresa: Dad? Mom? Is anyone in here?
(Suddenly, her parents appear arguing to each other)
Tirso: (Seriously) Rosita, I need to do this. For us, for everyone.
(Tirso decides to join the protest and fight against guwardiya sibil and the bad governance)
Rosita: (Worried) But please be safe… I need you home with us.
Teresa: (Tearfully) But, Dad, will I see you again?
Tirso: (to Rosita and Teresa) I promise to be here for you, to take care of you both, to protect you, to
keep you safe, I will always love you and my heart will choose you every day. Always remember I will
stay, even though you won’t see me. I will stay always and forever in your hearts. (Hugging her wife and
daughter)
(Tirso leaves the house and opens the door)
Soldier: I’ve been waiting for you (evil sound)
(Immediately shot by the soldiers, heard by her wife and daughter)

SCENE 4: The Knock on the Door – Confronting History’s Echoes, Embracing Change
(Soldiers knock on Rosita and Teresa’s door)
Rosita: (Panicked) Teresa, run! You need to hide!
Teresa: (Emotionally) How about you mother? I cannot make it without you.
Rosita: (Worried) My child, please listen to me.
(The soldier opens the door and enter)
Rosita: Who are you?
(Soldier shots Rosita with their guns while Teresa was hiding)
(Teresa hears how her mom was killed by the soldiers, runs to see her mom and cries then pushes away
the soldiers)
(Soldiers scare her and attempted to kill Teresa when two mamamayan enter.)
Mamamayan 5: No… Don’t kill a child!
(Both mamamayan hug Teresa making her safe against the soldiers)
Guwardiya Sibil: (Shouts) (referring to lgbtq representative mamamayan) You have no place here in our
society!
Guwardiya Sibil 2: (Shouts) (referring to a poor girl-mamamayan) And Why should we pay equal to
you! We are stronger and powerful than you are, you are just a poor woman. Living in a poverty!
Mamamayan 5: You are wrong! Everyone deserves equal opportunities and respect, regardless of their
gender and its race.
Mamamayan 2: Everyone should be given a fair chance to thrive.
(Soldiers hurt, scare, and facetiously laugh on the mamamayan.)
(Mamamayan carry Teresa’s Dad after the scene – death)
Teresa: (to Rosita) I will be a lawyer for you both. I promise…

SCENE 5: The Revenge of the Dead – Confronting the Past, Shaping the Future
Dadong: (steps forward) I am Dadong Soriano.
Tirso: (follows) I am Tirso Dimagiba.
Rosita: I am Rosita Dimagiba.

All: We are the victims, and our blood will fight for justice. (Hopeful)

SCENE 6: The Woman Revolutionary – Inspired by the Past, Guided by the Present, Shaping the
Future
(After years passed, Teresa now become a woman, bold and strong)
Teresa: (Delivers a message) I know you all are hurt, and so am I. I wasn’t ready to say good bye to
them, I wasn’t ready to be left! (Crying). To feel the same thing that grips your heart with its unforgiving
grasp was never a choice. My parents are my treasure, I am determined to seek justice for them. When
they pass away, I feel as if a part of me also died. I feel lifeless without the presence of the ones who
brought me joy. (Melancholy) Just like Jose Rizal stated, “The Youth just like me, are the hope for
tomorrow”. Today this sentiment remains true, the better future belongs to us.
Teresa: (Passionately) And life doesn’t end here, we must go on! I am now a woman, I will raise my
voice, I can and I will.
Tina: (Nods) We were with you, Teresa.
