CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Coronavirus also known as Covid-19 it is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-COV-2.


The disease broke out in the late 2019 and it originated from Wuhan City in China (Asia) In
the late 2019 December the disease spread at the alarming rate through the world hence it
became a global crisis.

1.1 BACKGROUND

In the late December 2019 a novel coronavirus was identified in China causing severe
respiratory disease including pneumonia. It was originated Wuhan as novel coronavirus and
the World Health Organisation (WHO) advised the language associate with the virus.

The disease caused as the result of the infection named- coronavirus Covid-19. Covid-19 has
been categorised as an airborne disease and the symptoms are as follows

-fever

-fatigue and dry cough

-loss of change of taste and smell

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

As a result of coronavirus (Covid-19) both formal and informal sector including the small
medium enterprises (SMEs) where largely affected. Kabwata market in particular.

1.3 AIM

The aim of this project is to identify the effects of coronavirus (Covid-19) on the marketers
of Kabwata market

1.4 OBJECTIVE

The main objective of this study was to identify the effects and challenges of coronavirus
(Covid-19) on the marketers of kabwata market.
CHAPTER TWO

2.1 LOCATION OF STUDY

The study was carried out in Kabwata township based in Lusaka and it is surrounded is by
areas namely Chilenje, kamwala, woodlands and ridgeway. Kabwata has the latitude of 15,
26 degrees south and the longitude of 28, 18 east with an elevation of 4,209 feet.

2.2 IMPORTANCE OF STUDY

The importance of this study was to identify and to acknowledge the challenges and how the
Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic negatively affected the traders at Kabwata market.

2.3 RESEARCCH QUESTION

 What challenges did they face on the market due to Covid-19?

 How did you manage to tackle the challenges which you facing due to Covid-19?
2.4 METHODOLOGY

 PRIMARY DATA COLLECTION

Primary data collection was collected through observations and personal interviews which at
20 random survey. This was done in order to target and to make it easier to get relevant
information from the marketeers

 SECONDARY DATA COLLECTION

Secondary data collection was collected from published document materials and internet.

 TARGET POPULATION

The target population was at 20 random survey and 20 marketeers where selected from the
market for interviews thus the 20 targeted population was ideal for easy collection of data.
CHAPTER THREE

3.1 FINDINGS

After collecting data it was analysed in order to capture the relevant information and present
it in a manner that would be understood.

The information has been presented in diagrams and tables.

4.1 PRESENTATINONS

This present the findings established through the data collected from the respondents.

Table 1.1 shows the sex of the respondents.

CHAPTER FIVE

5.1 INTERPRETATION

Table 1.1 shows the sex of respondent at the kabwata market that shows that 40% are male
and 60%are female who are trading at the market. This is because a lot of women have
nothing to do at home thus they decide to start trading at the market to sustain the lives.

Table 1.2 shows the age groups of respondent at the kabwata market and it shows that
10%of the marketers have the ages 15-20,60% have the age of 21-30 below 51 this shows
that 60% of the marketeers are young people. This is because there are no jobs for them
thus they decided to engage themselves into small medium enterprises at the market.

Table 1.3 shows the level of education of respondent and it shows that 50%of the
marketeers at 30% kabwata market reached primary level and 20% reached the secondary
level. The research shows that the majority of the marketeers at kabwata market are
uneducated that is the reason why they are trading at the market.
CHAPTER SIX

6.1 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

In the bid to produce a conclusive report the researcher had taken every way possible to
have an executive report during the course. To do all this a number of challenges was
hindering the relevant and effective part of the report. Here are some of the challenges.

-Data collection was problematic due to the nature of respondents carrying out the research
was time consuming because traders had to attend to their customers.

-Language barrier was a problem finding that the questions which were given was in English
and interpreting to the marketeers in the language they would understand was truly a
problem.
6.2 CONCLUSION

Corona virus (covid-19) has had brought more negative effect on our economy and it has
contributed to the damage of our economy and high rate of inflation. On the small medium
enterprises SMEs the traders in markets where greatly negatively affected in a sense that
there was less or no imports and exports of goods.

6.3 RECOMMENDATION

The government of Zambia through the ministry of health insured that everyone in their
market had follow the covid-19 health guidelines. The government introduced the ministry of
small medium enterprises SMEs and well-wishers had to give out loans and funds to help
the traders that had made losses in their businesses in the markets kabwata market in
particular.
