Trigonometry Toolkit Activity - Aadesh Yadgouda

a) Plot your points in Desmos. Label your axes.

b) For the Manchester graph, we can try and fit a cosine curve in the form of
h(t)= -a cos(bt) + d
1. a= (max-min)/2
max= 17
Min = 9
a= 4

2. One would expect the graph to reflect upon the x-axis, but it reflects upon the
y=d line(principal axis) where d= (max+min)/2 d= 13. Which is also the
y-coordinate for all the intersections between the given graph and the given
graph with positive cosine.

3. Use period = 360/b or 2pi/b (since we’re using radians) to find b.

period= 11.25
(period is the horizontal distance between two consecutive maximum points)
b= 32

4. d= 13(obtained above)

5. It has been plotted in part b. It could be much more accurate with the help of
the Desmos regression tool. Due to human error, it’s very difficult to get a
perfectly accurate representation of the Manchester sunlight hours graph.
