In the following passage, the numbered gaps indicate missing words. Against each number in the

list below the passage, four choices are offered in columns A to D. For each blank gap, choose

the word that is most suitable to fill the numbered gap.

Authors usually follow a particular procedure in writing their books. Inside a book, the -1-

QUESTION 4: DOCUMENTATION

Put the essentials in the following mixed up pieces of information into correct referencing

format, Harvard (UMaT) style, and as should appear on the References Lists:

1. A journal article found on pages 93 to 103 of the Ghana Mining Journal of December,

2015 written by the Head of Department of CENCES, Dr. Mrs. Patricia Beatrice Mireku-

Gyimah. We are referring to the first number of the 15th volume of the journal and the

title of the article is: Duality of Meaning of some English words: What’s on the Minds of

Beginner Mining and Related Engineering Students?

2. Linguistics Simplified: Semantics is a handy book, containing a total of 147 pages.

Authored by one Damoda Thakur who, as indicated on the blurb, has been the Chairman

of the Department of English in Sanaa University, Yemen. The book was published in

2007 in New Delhi, the printers being Bharati Bhawan who are also the publishers and

QUESTION 4: EDITING/PROOFREADING

The following passage is not edited. It contains an error or two in each sentence. Rewrite

the passage by correcting words that are incorrect and underline them at the same time.

When Kofi started driving taxi he was 19 years at age. He knew he had to work hard to make

ends meat. He had already moved from his fathers house and was staying with a friend; but

the rent was costly and the income from his tax work were often unsteady. He was beginning

to feel that he could not longer live within his earnings. Could he thought about an

alternative. Yes to avoid from disgrace, he will go back to school. However he would have to

tell his father he has regretted for not been patient and obedience. Even though the quality of

education had reduce a bit, he believed they still had benefits worth sacrificing on.

QUESTION 5: SKILLS IN ACADEMIC WRITING

Read the following piece of information and design a title page for a project report. Use

a ruler and a sharp pencil to create border lines on an A4 sheet.

(a). Two students of the University of Mines and Technology, Grace Bediako Kafui

(413015-08) and Daniel Ackah (413002-08) submitted a field trip report on the study of

the drill and blast operations in the Department of Mining Engineering in the Faculty of

Mineral Resources Technology on the 6th April, 2010. The report was submitted to Mr.

Erasmus Arhinful, the Training Officer of the English section of the department.
