• Classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11:20 am (Building-7/101)
• Course adjustment (Add/Drop): Jan 03 – Jan 12, 2024
• Last date from course drop: April 17, 2024
• There will be two exams:
Examination 1: Feb 19- Feb 24, 2024
Examination 2: April 25- May 1, 2024
• Attendance and paying attention is important: I may randomly call upon students to
respond to questions
Organization of Labs

• Labs every Tuesday from 2:00 to 3:20 pm and ……. (Building-11/209)


• Will be divided in to two groups
• Polishing, Etching and Microstructural characterization (Optical/Electron microscopy) of
Pure Al, 2-Series Al alloy (Al-Cu), Steel and Eutectic alloy
• Prepare the report and submit it to either Sagar (GTF) or me : Deadlines and details will
be announced during the lab session
• Submitting lab report on time is important

Why microstructural engineering ?
• Microstructure:
An arrangement of defects in space.
Consists of grains, grain boundaries, phase
boundaries/interfaces and different types of defects.
