Component A.

Learning area: Combined Science.

Level: O' level.

CALA Type: Survey.

Syllabus Topic: Health and diseases.

Sub Topic: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

CALA Title: identifying sexually transmitted infections (STIs), their causative agents, explaining their symptoms
and their effects to individuals and Zimbabwe as a nation.

Background: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are an important concern throughout the world, including
Zimbabwe. These are infections caused by pathogens. These pathogens affect the human reproductive system. The
pathogens that cause STIs cannot survive outside the human body. They can be passed on from one person to the
other through sexual contact with infected persons.

The CALA.

The CALA consists of three parts A , B and C. You are required to complete both parts A, B and C.

Part A.

List all the sexually transmitted infections that you know.

Part B.

 From the list of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) you listed in part A, carry out a survey to determine
the possible causative agents of the STIs.

 explain the symptoms of the STIs in human beings.

Part C.

Using information gathered in part B, explain how STIs affect:
