1. INTRODUCTION

The presented document covers the analysis and design of proposed lifting arrangement for the
trestle on class 230 barge for transferring the load on to the lifting beam on SPMT. The barge will not
be subjected to any motion forces as it will be properly moored at Rohini yard and at Dahej, it will be
in beaching condition.

2. REFERENCES
2.1 CODES & SPECIFICATIONS

The temporary lifting arrangement & support system is checked in accordance with the following codes &
standards.
a) IS 800:2007 – “General Construction in Steel – Code of Practice-Third revision”.
b) IS 2062 – “Hot rolled medium and high tensile structural steel – Specification (7th revision)”

5. LOAD CONSIDERATION
5.1 Dead Load(DL):
Dead load considered as the self-weight of Megaload system.

5.2 Lifted load (LL)

The lifted load is considered as per the inputs given by the Afcons (client). For analysis and design purpose
the maximum load is considered.

Net area = 2x0.457x8.650

CF = 1.6

Wind Load udl on tower (KN/m) = CF x Pzx dia of column

5.4 Notional Load

5% of total lifted load is considered as notional load.
Total NL = 5/100 * 425 = 21.25 Ton.
The notional load is divided on the lifting points, 4 lifting points are there.
NL = 21.25/4 = 5.33 Ton

5.5 Seismic Load

Seismic loads are not considered in the design of this tower lifting system, due to its temporary nature.

a) Section Classification

As per Table - 2, IS:800-2007

ε = √(250/250) =1

Classification of flange

Outstanding element of compression flange = (b/tf) = 154/18.7 = 8.24

9.4ε = 9.4 x 1 = 9.4

8.24 < 9.588, b/tf < 9.4ε, hence flange is class I Plastic.

Classification of web

Neutral axis mid-depth level = (d/tw) = 277.1/12 = 23.09

105ε = 105 x 1 = 105

23.09 < 105, d/tw < 105ε, hence web is class I plastic.

The overall section classification is plastic.
