Leonardo da Vinci was one o the greatest painters in history. He was also a brilliant engineer, architect and
inventor. His list o achievements is, o course, just too (0) long to include in this lecture. Instead,
I’ll limit mysel to mentioning a ew o my personal avourites. Firstly, there are his amazingly beauti ul and
li elike (1) o the inner workings o the human body, which revolutionized medicine, and his

In his li etime, Leonardo was nanced by some o the richest princes in Europe. He began his career in

Last summer, an expedition set out (0) to solve one o the world’s strangest mysteries. Legend has
it that a monster lives at the bottom o Loch Ness in Scotland, a monster which (1) have been
there ever since the last ice age – nobody knows or sure. Over the years, there have been many sightings,
but no conclusive evidence. That’s why the expedition was organized, (2) prove, once and
or all, whether ‘Nessie’ was real or not.
The expedition’s scientists used a glass-bottomed boat (3) that they could look deep into the
dark waters o the loch (loch is a Scottish word or lake). They also brought with them a lot o sophisticated
