You can pass agriculture well
PREFACE

This book is a complete workbook which fully covers UACE Agriculture syllabus. It is meant to
aid students in mastering the practical aspect of the subject and be able to handle practical exams
well. The book is written in line with the NCDC and UNEB standards and the subject objective of
equipping learners with practical skills. It is based on the current SESEMAT methodology of
teaching sciences where the learner must have “HANDSON”.
It is written in such a manner that a learner is guided to;-
 Observe and see
 Manipulate apparatus
 Record observations
 Interpret data
 Draw diagrams
 Draw conclusions
 Dissect and display animal parts
Agriculture practical’s are the easiest compared to other science practical’s. Most students think
that agriculture practical’s are done to pass examinations only; but this is not the only reason.
Practical work mainly fills the gap between subject content and daily application. They relate
closely to the concepts being learnt in theory.
Usually only few representatives of soil or plants or animals parts are presented to the students in
the laboratory for study during a practical lesson or exam. These are usually called samples. These
samples are also called specimens once presented for any practical activity in the laboratory.
Unless requested to give the identity we must always refer to samples as specimens during
practical activity.
Practical examination tests acquisition of the following;
i. Application of knowledge acquired in theory to practical situation
ii. Scientific use of apparatus and performing experiments
iii. Making and recording of observations accurately
iv. Presentation of data in appropriate form.
v. Drawing conclusions from the observations made
vi. Tests suitability of procedure, experiment and observation in support of the deductions/
conclusions made.
