For my senior project I shadowed for 20 hours 7 of them being at the FMS in brookings

sd my mentor for that was Chris Fisher and 13 hours at Ustanko LLC my mentor for that being

Michael Ustanko. I spent around 31 total hours on this project including the planning and putting

together the product itself. My research question was “Is it worse For the Environment to

Produce Electric Engines Than It Is to Just Use Internal Combustion Engines?” Ultimately what

I found upon hours of research and writing is that being that EV engines are still in the beginning

stages it is better for the environment to work with what we have and try our best to optimize

Internal combustion engines than it is to produce the materials for the electric engines. For my

product I decided I want to create a platform that shows how to fix and maintain vehicles that is

a youtube channel. I had to gather tools and car parts to be able to complete the repairs.

This project gave me tons of challenges and obstacles that I had to overcome in order to

complete my project. For one I had not even known what I was going to do for my project until

early 2024 and I didnt get to castlewood until September of 23’ Luckily I knew what field I

wanted to get into and I based my product ideas off that. I also had trouble editing the videos and

uploading them as I didn't have a personal computer to do so and my phone couldn't take all the

storage so I had to compromise by deleting unused data on my phone in order to film the project

and upload it to youtube. I overcame the time constraints and other things by talking to my

personal mentor and doing research on the field. This helped me make my decision to enlist into

the Army as a 91 bravo as well. Luckily my step dad helped me with the car parts, tools, shop

and vehicle knowledge to help with this project.

I feel like given my circumstances and challenges I managed my time fairly well and to

the best of my ability. Whenever I had free time I was researching parts to put on my vehicle, the

tools I’d need, what the issue with my vehicle was in the first place ect. I learned alot about my

career field and myself over this project. I better understand the basics of mechanics and the

tools needed for it and my own mindset on the career I want to pursue. I also learned the

difference between mechanics in the military and mechanics in the civilian world. I gained alot

of faith in myself and knowledge in this career field. I will use the knowledge and skills I have

gained from this to better myself and further my career in the army as a wheeled vehicle

mechanic and a leader no matter what.
