Report about the test of new ATEX centrifugal pump of the open drain

1 Purpose
On the 7th August 2022, we start the test of the new centrifugal pump installed on the open
drain area, this pump is connected with the electrical cable of the open drain pump 48-P-0-
0101.

The aim of this test is to transfer water from open drain to evaporation pond during three
hours to find out if the new centrifugal pump will work good.

2 The pump test

2-1 Pump Start up
- First, when we start the new centrifugal pump, it trips by underload of rated current.

- After the intervention of electrical team (They change the trip threshold of underload current
from 20% of rated current to 15% as well as the alarm threshold of underload current from 30%
to 20%) the pump keeps running.

2-2 Manual dipping

The level change of the open drain during the test using the manual dipping is as bellow:

Time Manual dipping Status of the horizontal pump

08:15 243 Start
09:15 244 Running
10:15 245 Running
11:15 246 Stop

Following the above table of manual dipping, we can conclude that when we work with the
new centrifugal pump, it decreases the level of open drain by 1 Cm/hour.

3 Actual parameters of the pump:

3-1 The actual flow rate:

Because there is no flow meter installed on the pump discharge and in order to find out the
flow rate, we used a graduated container in the evaporation pond and see how long it takes to
be filled.

Using this method, we found that the mean value of actual flow rate is about 15 3m/h. (In order
to be more accurate, we will use a big container (IBC) ASAP)

3-2 The discharge pressure:

Reading existing pressure gauge at the new centrifugal pump discharge, we noticed that this
pressure gauge indicates values that vary between 1.8 and 2 bars during the test period.
