YOUR CLARKE/AMERICAN-LINCOLN 436 POWER SWEEPER HAS BEEN SHIPPED COMPLETE, BUT DO.
NOT ATTEMPT TO OPERATE WITHOUT READING THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS.
Uncrate the machine and carefully remove from skid to prevent damage.
Install and charge batteries. (If battery powered)
Connect and tighten battery cables. (If gasoline or LP powered)
Fill tank with REGULAR GRADE - UNLEADED gasoline. (f gasoline powered.) See page 31.
Check LP connections. (if LP powered.)
A WARNING
Never fill fuel tank while the engine is running, Always be sure gasoline container and sweeper are
electrically grounded before pouring gas. This can be easily done by providing an insulated wire
(permanently attached to the container) with battery clip on the other end.
6. Check engine crankcase oil level. Although properly lubricated at factory, check before starting engine.
No special break-in oil is used and recommended number of operating hours before the initial ofl change

A WARNING
FOR SAFETY, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS. FAILURE TO COMPLY CAN CREATE A
‘SERIOUS RISK OF INJURY TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS.
Do not use with/or near flammable materials or vapors, Use only with good ventilation.
2 Operators must be trained, qualified and understand the operator's manual betore starting.
3. Operate only from the designated operators position. Keep behind the body of the machine. Keep
hands on the designated controls. Always operate in well lighted areas.
4. Do not dump the hopper over an open pit or dock. Do not dump the hopper when positioned on a
grade (ramp). The machine must be level (horizontal).
5. Operate machine only when lids, doors and access panels are securely closed.
6 Do not leave machine on a ramp or dock. After stopping the machine turn all switches off.
7. The operator must exhibit extreme caution when negotiating, turning and traveling across grades
orramps.
8. Start, stop, change direction and travel smoothly. Slow down when turn-ing. Avoid uneven surtaces
and loose materials.
9. Watch out for obstructions, especially overhead.
10. Chock (block) the wheels when the machine is to be worked on.
11, Never leave the machine with the engine running.
12, Report damage or faulty operation immediately. Do not operate the machine ut

KEY SWITCH - BATTERY
The keyed ignition switch is tocated in the center of the control console. The key positioned in the "OFF"
position will only allow the shaker button to be activated. The key switch in the “ON* position will allow all
systems to function.
‘To conserve battery power turn this Key off when leaving the machine unattended, even if only for a minute,
When fully charged, the battery will operate the sweeper for 3 to 3 1/2 hours under normal conditions. Run
time will vary with operating conditions and machine maintenance.
KEY SWITCH - GAS/LP
‘The keyed ignition switch is momentary start switch located in the center of the controi console. The key has
three positions of “OFF”, “RUN” and “START”. The "OFF" position will only allow the shaker button to be ac-
tivated. The key switch in the "RUN" position will allow the all systems to function. The "START" posttion is
‘momentary and will start the engine and automatically return to the "RUN" position when released.
