Activity 2_ What is your opinión?

Step 1 - Getting Started

"Nosedive"
"Nosedive" is an episode of Black Mirror series on Netflix that show how social media
daily are becoming a reality of everyday, where looks and popularity will be essential to
determine who is successful in life. The characters in "Nosedive" rate each other in order to
fit into society.

The rating system causes people in society to have toxic relationships with one another.
By rating others, it impacts the individual's housing, ability to work, ability to travel, and
relationships with others.

The characters play the biggest role in the episode because they must build their personal
branding to peer-rating. If someone is badly rated, people become suspicious and rate the
person low as well.

Step 2 – Get Ideas

I agree with colleague Lully Vanesa, who states that social networks “have become a
fundamental part of many people”, since they have reached even the most geographically
remote sectors and are considerably influencing the cultural changes of societies, gained
more and more members, who day by day become dependent on the networks. However, it
should be noted that although social networks serve as a means to bring people together,
obtain knowledge, market products, undertake and many others, it is also the fact that they
can serve as a platform for intrusion into the privacy of others, cyber extortion. . ,
harassment, scam, among others.
Agree Disagree Opinions
x In the future, people will be interacting with others depending on
their social network’s score/rate
x Lives online will be promoting a social relationship where we
search for more friends and create an idealized self-image
through personal branding.
x Over next years, if someone is badly rated on social media,
people will become suspicious and rate the person low as well.
Step 3 – Organize your ideas

Opinion
Over next years, if someone is badly rated on social media, people will become
suspicious and rate the person low as well.

Reason 1
Social media are a growing trend, therefore everything that happens on them will have a
positive or negative impact on some topic or person in question.

Support
Everything that is published on social media will be rated by the public, therefore if there
are bad concepts or comments about a particular person or topic, other people will also
do so, causing a low opinion of the designated person to be generated.

Reason 2

With the great reception that social media have, they will undoubtedly reach everyone
and therefore what is displayed on them may receive comments or good and bad ratings,
which can affect or benefit its protagonists.

Support
If social networks are used for commercial purposes, communication, learning,
entertainment, it can generate a great positive impact, however if all the information
handled is given for extortion, harassment, scam or pornography, the impact can be
disastrous for his victims.

Conclusion
Social media in the future will be so strong that if a person exposes or publishes negative
content on the networks, the negative label will also be taken by others, thus generating
negative opinions about that person or that content. That is to say, the fact that networks
are trending means that both the positive and negative things in them go viral.
Step 4 – Let’s write an English paragraph

Over next years, if someone is badly rated on social media, people will become suspicious
and rate the person low as well.

The high use of social media today shows that they have become a fundamental element of
daily events, which in the future will be increasingly greater, therefore it is necessary to be
aware and take into account the type of content we see and that we share, as well as the
opinions we give about people, since it is not always what it seems, since false or harmful
information is shared through the networks, which we may be sharing without stopping to
investigate.

It is the case that when a person is poorly rated on the networks, other people will also rate
them poorly, guided simply by what others say or by superficial information that has been
passed from hand to hand without any justification.

That is to say, if a person is negatively exposed on social networks, the same will be the
qualifications they receive and their reputation may be affected, without considering at all
the real information that may be behind it. That is why it is vitally important to make good
use of these networks, since they must be used for good things and not for harmful
purposes.
Step 5 – Student’s diary

• What did you learn in this task?

This activity helped me enrich my vocabulary, interact with my classmates and encourage
writing paragraphs in a structured way, taking into account grammatical rules. Through this
we were able to write on a proposed topic, advancing step by step, which finally led us to
the presentation of our opinion on the topic of social media.

• What did you find most interesting about the task?

The most interesting thing about this activity was the topic, since social networks are part
of our current life and therefore we must take into account both their benefits and the
negative aspects that social networks bring, in order not to fall into mistakes that can be
fatal for our lives.

• What area or topic would you like to find out more about?
I would like to know more about network marketing, which I consider to be one of the most
important benefits that social networks can offer us, since it allows us to promote a brand
and expand its market.

• Areas to work on: (grammar / vocabulary / spelling / writing)

The most important area to work on is grammar and writing.
