B. Performance Standard
1. Conduct a forum on mitigation and disaster risk reduction. (Code: S7FE-IIIa-1)

C. Learning Competencies
1. Describe the motion of an object in terms of speed. (Code: S7FE-IIIa-1)
Specific Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. Describe the velocity
b. Solve a problem-based computation about velocity.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Describing Motion
Subtopic: Velocity
Reference: Science 9 – learner’s material pp. 177-182
Teacher’s manual pp. 175-181
Learner’s module pp.

III. Learning Task

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT'S ACTIVITY

A. Preparation
a. Prayer
“Everybody please stand up , before
we start our class”

“Student A can you please lead the

prayer" (Student A will lead the prayer)

b. Greetings

“Magandang buhay!”
“Mabuting tao!”

c. Checking Attendance

“You may now take your seat."

"Class monitor, who are the

absentees today?”
“Sir, there is no absentees for
today””
"Wow! No one is absent today.
Great!”

d. Review
Greeting to all! Welcome to another
day of exploration on physics. But
before we start our lesson let us
recall our past lesson.
“What topic did we discuss
yesterday?”

“Yes, Student A.”

“Our topic yesterday is all about
speed”
“Okay, very good.”

What is speed?

“Yes, Student B.”

“Speed is defined as the distance
travelled divided by the time of travel.
Units like kilometers per hour (km/h),
miles per hour (mi/h), and meters per
second (m/s) can be used to express
speed.”
“Very Good!”

“What is the formula to get the

speed?”

“Yes Student W!”

“Correct”
“Can you try to solve these
problems?”

Direction: Compute for the Value of

Speed:

Sidek travels 250 km in 5 hours.

What was his speed in km/h ?
Speed = ?
Speed= Distance ÷Time =____km/h

“Yes student U!”

“Sir the average speed of Sidek is 1.
50 km/h.”
“Very Good! Correct!”
“Magnificent work! You recalled our past
lesson. So, to start with today's lesson lets
unpack these new words.”

B. Motivation

Direction: Find the missing letters to form a Answer

word about our topic. 1. ACCELERATION
1. A C_ _ L _ R A _ _ _ N 2. SPEED
2. _ _ E _ D 3. DISTANCE
3. D _ S T _ _ N _ E
4. VELOCITY
4. _ E L _ _T _
5. T _ _ E 5. TIME

“Perfect!”

“Congratulations, students!”

C. Lesson Proper
“What we did earlier has something to do
with our lesson for today.”

“Do you have an idea what will be our

lesson for today?”
“Yes Sir. Our lesson for today is all
about Velocity.”

“Yes, exactly! Our lesson for today is all

about velocity

“Student G will you please read what is

velocity”
“Velocity is identifying the rate of a
moving body and the direction of
motion.”
“Okay!”
“In other words we use the term velocity to
describe the speed with direction.”

“Student E, please read the next slide.”

“Unit like m/s north, m/h east, and
km/h south are used to expressed
velocity”

“The formula to solve the velocity

is”:
where:
v = velocity
d = displacement (distance +
direction)
t = time
“Okay! Now that you know the formula of
velocity”

“You can compute for the car’s velocity

using the equation.”

“Student M will you please read the

problem.”
“Suppose that a car travels 90 km in
a time interval of 3 hours going
southwest, what is the car’s
velocity?”
“Okay, who wants to answer?”

“Student I”
Given:
Displacemnt =90 km,SW
Time = 3 hours

Velocity = 30 km/h ,SW

“Good Job! Your answer is correct!”

Activity Proper
Direction: Solve the velocity of the given
problem on a clear sheet of paper.

Direction: Find the velocity.

1. If Rocky walks 600 meters in 180
seconds Southeast from his house to
school, what is your velocity?
1.Given:
d=600m SE
t= 180 s
Formula: v=d/t
Solution: v= 600 m SE / 180 s
=3.33 m/s SE
Final Answer: v= 3.33m/s SE

2. A car travels 100 km in 5 hours going

Northeast, what is its velocity?
2.Given
d=100 km NE
t= 5 H
Formula: v=d/t
Solution: v= 100 km NE / 5 h
=20 km/h NE
Final Answer: v= 20 km/h NE

D. Generalization

“Do you now understand the velocity

class?”
“ Yes Sir”

“Now that we’re done discussing about

velocity, I will ask a question.”

“Why is velocity is important?”

“Velocity is important because it
helps us to determine how quickly we
(or anything) will arrive at a
destination from a given location.
“Is there any questions or clarifications
regarding to our topic today.”
“None Sir”

“Thank you so much, everyone. I

appreciate each and every one of you.”

E. Application

Directions. Compute for the value of

velocity. Write your answer on a separate
sheet of paper.
Answers:
1. Given:
Displacement=120 meters going to East 1. 6m/s East
Time travelled=20 seconds

2. Given:
Displacement= 225 kilometers going to 2. 90 km/h South
South
Time travelled=2.5 hours

3. Given: 3. 14.5 cm/s North

Displacement=580 centimeters going to
North
Time travelled=40 seconds
F. Evaluation
Directions: Choose the best answer from
the given choices. Write the letter of your
choice in a separate sheet of paper.

CHOICES Answers:
20 km/h SE 25 m/s SE 1.Velocity
Instruction Direction 2. V=displacement/time

Distance Vector 4.Vector
V=displacement X Scalar 5. 20 km/h SE
Time
V=displacement/time Velocity
1. It is the speed of something in a
given direction.
2. The formula to get the velocity
3. Velocity requires a____________.
4. What type of quantity is velocity?
5. If the displacement is 500 km going
to SouthEast and the time travelled
