There was barely enough food and water and the living environment was horrible. Training was also harsh.

Some soldiers deserted the army to protect their families. Those caught would be executed or branded with a hot iron. .

Women: They had to start to take care of the whole household and earn money. They would go out and work on the elds. Families: Were split, some wanted to be in the North while others in the South. Husbands and wives come from different places. Scarcity and Ination: Hardly any food or goods, bad economy, people were angry and tired People who lived near Battleeld: Had the chance of watching the battle or getting shot
