Sci 10 Lab 8-Projectile in An Angle
Sci 10 Lab 8-Projectile in An Angle
OBJECTIVES:
1. To construct a projectile launcher
2. To compute the horizontal velocity, range and vertical distance of the projectile
launched at an angle
MATERIALS:
PhET Simulation:
https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/projectile-motion/latest/projectilemotion_en.html
PROCEDURES:
ALTERNATIVE: the “Projectile Motion” simulation from phet.colorado.edu.
1. Click PLAY BUTTON.
2. CHOOSE “LAB”
3. Click down the arrow beside “CANNONBALL” and choose your LAUNCHER.
4. 4. ADJUST the MASS to 15kg, DIAMETER to 0.25m and GRAVITY to 9.8m/s 2
5. Used the initial speed of 18m/s.
6. DRAG the LAUNCHER’S ANGLE based on the given below.
7. CLICK LAUNCHED (RED BUTTON) and OBSERVE THE TRAJECTORY
8. CLICK the MEASURING DEVICE.
TABLE OF OBSERVATIONS:
Trial Angle in Range (m) Height (m) V1 (m/s) Time of
Degrees Flight t
(s)
1 30° 28.63 4.13 18m/s 1.84
2 40° 32.56 6.83 18m/s 2.36
3 50° 32.56 9.7 18m/s 2.81
4 60° 28.63 12.4 18m/s 3.18
GUIDE QUESTIONS:
1. Which angle results to the greatest range? Both 40° and 50°
2. Which angle results to the maximum height? 60°
3. How would you compare the distance traveled by projectiles launched at angles:
a. 300 and 600? Their ranges are the same.
b. 400 and 500? Their ranges are the same
c. APPLICATION:
If you were an archer trying to fire your arrow, to what angle should you aim so that
your arrow will reach its maximum horizontal distance (range)?
I would say about 40° since I need to fire my arrow at a fast and longer range.
