Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

CO1 :: gain basic knowledge about major contemporary issues of human geography

CO2 :: apply geographical knowledge to cultural concepts

CO3 :: analyze geographical understanding with contemporary socio-cultural global issues

CO4 :: assess the knowledge on geo-political, developmental contemporary issues in human

CO5 :: express contemporary socio-economic practices from the geographical perspective

Thinking geographically : relevance of geography in a globalised world, uniqueness of locations
and regions, spatial connections
Unit II
Folk and popular culture : food customs, clothing preferences, popular media, folk music

Unit III
Socio-cultural dimensions : linguistic geography, geography of religion, geography of ethnicities,
gender geography
Unit IV
Industries, geopolitics and development : geography of resources and industries, world trade,
geography of war and peace, terrorism, global patterns of development
Unit V
Agriculture, poverty and hunger : landlessness, food security, geography of hunger

Unit VI
Contemporary cities : suburbanisation, gentrification, smart cities
