PREFACE

The basis for this research originally stemmed from my passion for developing better
methods of victim justice and preservation. The present study aims to assess the specific
needs and levels of victim’s satisfaction derived in the survivor’s interactions with the
criminal justice systems, with the help of case studies through the mechanisms
interviewing. It also seeks to primarily identify the extent to which procedural dignity and
involvement for a victim must be identified in the Indian codified criminal procedure. The
same would be understood better in a comparative light of the trends in other jurisdictions,
as regards the internalizations of the rights in statutory law is concerned.
To facilitate such study, the legislative amendments and the judicial dicta that have
contributed significantly aiming to make the procedure victim friendly and victim oriented,
would be traced.
Finally, the effort is to look at what more concrete steps could be taken in the directions of
adapting the best practices, which cater to the requirements of victim justice. The research
work is interspersed with interpretations, explanation’s, tables, and graphs. Further, a
number of judicial decisions on the area have added new dimensions to the interpretations
of the provisions.
