GUIMBAL
Guimbal is a 1st District municipality and a 29-kilometer town away from the city of Iloilo.
According to the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the municipality of Guimbal is
recognized as a 4th class municipal category in Western Visayas. It is also known as the cleanest town
in Iloilo. Since then, Guimbal has been improved and urbanized significantly. Its landmarks and sites,
establishments, community, and the town proper, in general, are continually improving. Relatively,
this urbanization happened because of the “Guimbalanons” – the people of Guimbal and the
intellectual leaders that regulate the town.

Furthermore, a fact about Guimbal, it was named after an instrument called "Guimba." It is a
drum locally known as "gimbal" that is being utilized by the public as a warning instrument from the
Moro raid – The pirates that loot the town and capture natives to be used and sold as slaves in
Mindanao. This historical origin is being enacted annually during the Guimbal festival "Bantayan."
Additionally, looking back at my hometown's history, I am reminded by the heritage of my ancestors.
A heritage that fills me with hope when times are tough. I was born in a resilient town with people
who bravely fought for its humanitarian rights and it gives me an ignited courage to face my battles
headstrong like my ancestors did.
