‘BIILOGISTICS OMPANY LIMITED LEAVE OF ABSENCE POLICY. 1. Objective. 1.1 An unpaid personal leave of absence may be granted upon request to casual or permanent employees for pressing personal needs at the discretion of the management. 1.2 Employees may be granted personal leave, pregnancy disability leave, work-incurred disability leave, Family and Medical Leave anid other paid!/urpitid leaves @s provided for under policy 2. Provisions. 2.1 Unpaid personal leave may only beweguested once all other appropriate leave balances have been exhausted. 2.2 The maximum days of unpaid leave to be given to any employee in a year are ten (10) days unless in very exceptional circumstances. 2.3 If an employee extends the leave after the approved days are over without the management approval, it shall be regarded absconding of duties and that will fad to disciplinary action 2.4 All absence not provided in accordance with policy shall be regarded as breach duty subject to disciplinary action and surcharge. 3. Procedure for applying for unpaid leave. 3.1 Requests for unpaid leave should be’ made in writing to the Human Resource Manager with a copy to the ‘Managing Director and should indicate the lengttvof the leave and the reason. 3.2 The HR’Manager shall liaise with’ thé team leader to review and act upoii the request consideration of the following factors: 3.2.1 The purpose for which the leave is requested. 3.22” The length of time the employee willbe away! 32:3 The effect the leave will have on the ability of the department to carry out its responsibilities. 324 The quality of the employee's performance prior to the submission of the request. 3.3. All unpaid personal leaves must be approved by the HR. Manageriand.ratified iby the Managing Director. 3.4 Approval or denial of leave for family and medical leave qualifying reasons shall be completed within two business days of employee's notice of need for leave. Appeals of denials of leave requests will be reviewed in conformance with applicable policy 4, Procedure for returning from unpaid leave. 4.1. An employee who has been granted unpaid leave of absence shall give notification to the HR Manager of the intent to return to work two days prior to the date of return. 4.2 Medical Certification is required in all cases for leaves of more than three (3) consecutive work days, which are due to an employee's illness, an eligible family leave or a family member's iliness Return to Work Certification is required for leaves of more than 5 consecutive work days due to an employee's own illness eiving notification VE the HR : ‘STILOGISTICS OMPANY LIMITED ce eee ‘supply § transps uction ee ima aie es 5. If the previous position is no longer available, the employee may be considered for other positions which he/she maybe qualified for. Ifo position exists for casual workers or temporary workers, the employee will remain on unpaid leave until a suitable position develops, If such a position does not occur within 30 days, any obligation to reinstate the employee is discontinued and the employee leave status is changed to voluntary termination.
