I. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the student must be able to:
COGNITIVE:
Illustrate what it means to measure.
Describe the development of measurement from the primitive to the present
international system of units.
Approximate the measures of quantities particularly length
AFFECTIVE:
Appreciate God’s immeasurable love by sharing how Jesus sacrificed himself for our
sins.
PSYCHOMOTOR:
Physically perform the conversion of measurements from one unit to another in both
the metric and English systems by using appropriate tools and techniques,
demonstrating precision and accuracy.
III. PROCEDURES:
A. Introduction:

Read the History of Measurement on page 102.

Early units of linear measurement
1. Inch - it is the width of the thumb.
2. Digit - it is the width of the middle finger.
3. Palm - it is the width of the four fingers.
4. Span - it is the distance covered by the spread hand.
5. Foot - it is the length of the foot.
6. Cubit - it is the distance from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger
7. Yard - it is the distance from the center of the body to the fingertips of the
outstretched arm.
8. Fathom - it is the distance spanned by the outstretched arms
