ASSIGNMENT 1: TEACHING METHODS

1. I believe that the methods most suitable for me when I qualify as a TEFL teacher would be:

Teacher VS Learner Method due to the following reasons:

 This method is all about creating a good learning environment, one that is always
changing and keeping students interested as this creates a good relationship between
the student and the teacher.
 I believe using this method would create an enjoyable experience of learning for the
students.
 I would create fun and playful activities, such as language games, music-based activities,
dances and drama, which can all aid in assisting the learners improve their grammar and
English language in a less stressful environment. Although the students are exposed to a
huge amount of stimuli, they will not feel under pressure, stressed or frustrated by this.
The key point is that, in a suggestopedic lesson, students learn as smoothly as they did
when they were little kids.

Communicative Language Teaching due to the following reasons:

 This approach encourages students to learn through problem solving, tasked


assignments and actual participation.
 In this approach students learn to communicate functions, make requests, describe etc.
 This approach is very concerned with the teaching of the correct use of grammar from
the beginning, very similar to the Direct Method.
 It is to teach the student to become comfortable with the language and use it.

Direct Method:

 In this method, the teacher would teach the language through participation
instead of grammar.
 Students pick up this language more on instinct initially and improve on grammar
afterwards.
1. Primary School- I believe that the Suggestopedia method resonated to me. As a young child
in Primary school my teachers quite regularly read out stories to the class or made us
meditate during class hours to relax us if we were too overwhelmed by the content taught
to us. And I noticed myself being able to grasp my content much easier after doing so.

Secondary School- Communicative Language Teaching resonated to me as we were always


requested to be actively participating in discussions at classes and therefore this method
aided in my confidence to communicate and to comprehend.
