PICTURE ANALYSIS
Look at the picture, try to analyze the elements
and principles of arts used based on the picture.

Students answer may vary

B. Analysis

1. What do you think are the elements of art?

2. Why do you think its important for you to “ the principles of art are lines, color, shape,
know the elements of art as a student taking space, value, form and texture”
up handicraft?
“ its important to know this information for us
to be able to create an amazing artwork”
C. Abstraction

Lesson Proper

The elements of arts and principles of design Is

considered as the “ building blocks” used to
create a piece of artwork

Elements of Art
There are seven elements of art, which are
line, shape, color, texture, form, value and
space.

1. The line is created by a mark . line

includes straight, diagonal, vertical,
horizontal, zigzag, broken, etc.

2. Shape , created by two dimensions:

length and width.
what’s your favorite shape? “ triangle ma’am”
“circle ma’am”
“ heart ma’am”
Those are just few of the many shapes we
have, who can draw on the board the shape
rhombus, anyone ? “ what’s that ma’am?”

“ me ma’am , I will try “

Student draw a rhombus on board

Shape is also used to give an artwork character
and can contribute to the defining artistic style
of an artist.

3. Color , an aspect of the appearance of

objects and light sources and is considered
as the most important element of art.

what are the primary color? Students answer in chorus

“ red, blue and yellow ma’am”

what about secondary colors?

that’s right Mr. Cruz “ purple, green and orange ma’am”

Now we go to Texture
4. Texture this is the feel using the sense
of touch or the appearance of an object.
“how do you explain a texture ? also give me
an example of texture that you know ”

that’s a good example miss , the texture

allows you to give your artwork more depth

and visual interest”.

5. Form , the structure and shape of an

object. For example a three-dimensional
objects. Here is a examples of form
6. Value , the degree of lightness and
darkness of an object.

7. Space , the amount of an area or

surface. The area around the primary objects
in a work of art is known as negative space,
while the space occupied by the primary
objects is known as positive space.

who can tell me what is the positive space and

the negative space in this picture “ the positive space ma’am is the two faces
facing each other”
if you are seeing a vase, then you are seeing
the white area as the positive space. The
black areas become the negative space. If you
are seeing faces, then you are seeing the
black areas as the positive space, and the
white area as the negative space.

Principles of Design

Principles of Design are the structure used to

craft a work. The principles of design can be
understood easily.
1. Harmony , this is the impression that is
achieved when all elements relate to
and complement one another.

2. Balance, the distribution of the weight

of objects, colors, texture and space.
Types of balance
 Formal balance, this is achieved when
one side design is the same with the
other side
 Asymmetrical balance, on the other
hand, is achieved when one side design
is arrange differently from the other side

3. Unity, is achieved when the relationship

among elements helps all elements
function together.

4. Emphasis is to showcase or highlight

the most important part of a design
“ the white chess piece ma’am”

“ the elements of art are, line, shape, color,

form, value, space and texture.

What do you think is given emphasis in this “ the four principles of design are harmony,
photo? balance, unity and emphasis”

Correct!

Now before we end our class discussion who

can tell me the elements of art?

What about the 4 principles of design

Good Job!

D. Application
Group Task: Design
Form a group with 5 members and make a
design of any basket of your choice. Show and
explain to class how the elements of arts and
principles of design were used in the design of
the project you have made.
IV. Evaluation
ESSAY: 15 Points

INSTRUCTION:
Create a three-paragraph essay explaining the importance of the elements and
principles of art in making/ creating the project you are working on.
