 Skill Building Equations

These sets of picture equations help students build math thinking and problem solving skills
that are used in Algebra as well as Geometry (proof and logical reasoning).

To solve the challenging level, students must use substitution and the transitive property
(whether they realize it or not!)

Practicing these skills in this format helps them to build the skills that they will need in higher
level math classes.

To get students discussing and explaining how they replace pictures and use algebraic
thought processes to solve, try pairing them up in groups of 2.

These make great warm-ups or challenge problems for daily or weekly skill building with a
fun twist.

You can print the answer sheets double sided, or shrink them and print two per page.

The cards with squares contain basic problems that can
be solved by students as young as fifth grade.

The set with circles is more challenging and is great in a

high school setting or for a middle school challenge.

The set with stars is the most difficult (challenge level)!
