Nanobiotechnology and Diabetes
Nanobiotechnology and Diabetes
The successful application of nanobiotechnology in medicine has greatly changed the traditional way of
diagnosis and treating of disease. Modern delivery systems e.g., nanofiber (NF)-based systems fabricated
by natural and synthetic or both materials to deliver therapeutics agents and cells, could be an indicator of
a new era to avert DM complications. Recent progress in the field of diabetes research at its interface with
Nanofibers has received an immense attention of the world. As a result, the invention of Nanofibers in
1966, have left a lot of people astonished by its abilities ranging from tissue engineering to drug delivery
and also as a disease detecting material. Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM) is linked to both short-term and
long-term health problems therefore its detection at the very basic stage is of utmost importance because
its management will be a lot easier. Over the past three decades the incidence of type 2 diabetes has risen
dramatically in countries of all income levels and its management has progressed quite sluggishly.
Nanofibers could be used to cripple the rise of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in a many ways such as
creating ultra-sensitive glucose sensors, creating devices that can deliver insulin directly to the
bloodstream, creating smart textiles that can monitor the wearer’s health and provide feedback about their
blood sugar levels and finally promote healing and prevent infection in wounds.
