III. Procedures (Teacher and Student Activity)

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
a. Opening Prayer

Okay class, to formally start our lesson, may I

request Ms. Marian to lead the prayer. (Marian led the prayer)
b. Greetings
Good morning, Ma’am!
Good morning class! I am Teacher Glaiza and I
will be your teacher for today. Were fine Ma’am.
How are you feeling today?
That’s great! It is good to hear that you are all
fine today.

c. Attendance
None Ma’am!
Okay class, who is absent today? (Students will clap their hands)
Very good! Let us give a round of applause to
everyone
d. Classroom Management
(Students are listening attentively to
I would like to remind you first about our class the teacher)
rules.

First, respect your teacher and your classmates

all the time.

Second, if you have questions or clarifications,

do not hesitate to raise your hands and ask.

And lastly, participate in every activity. Your

active participation is a big part of the whole
lesson.
Are we clear class? Yes Ma’am!
Okay! Good to hear that.

B. Review

Now, who among you here can recall our lesson (The students raise their hand)
last meeting?

Yes, Julian. The lesson we discussed last meeting

Ma’am is all about Angle – Angle
Similarity (AA ~ Postulate) If two
angles of one triangle are congruent to
two angles of another triangle, then the
triangles are similar.

That is right Julian, Very Good!

C. Motivation
(Students are listening attentively)
Before we proceed to our lesson, let us have this
saying from C.S Lewis,

“In real life a right-angled triangle is very

unlikely to have a square of its hypotenuse.” –
Ellis

(The teacher will explain the quote above)

D. Activity

Activity 1 (Students are listening what group they

Now, I will group you into 3, each group will belong and they sit together with their
receive worksheets containing the activities that group).
we are going to do this morning. You are going
to do the task collaboratively with your
groupmates.
Yes Ma’am!
Am I clear?

(The teacher group the class into three, asked

them to form a circle, and distribute worksheets
to all groups).

Directions: Let us recall how triangles can be

similar. Determine if the following pairs of
triangles are similar. You only have 5 minutes to
do the task. (Students collaboratively answers the
first activity for 5 minutes.)

Δ DPE ~ ΔRPQ
ΔLGF ~ Δ LNM

Not Similar

Not Similar

5.
Δ NUM ~ Δ SUT

(Representative from group 1 will

share their answers).

Okay time is up! Group 1, please share your

answers in class.

(Teacher will evaluate the outputs)

(Student will raise their hands)

E. Analysis The activity is all about determining

similar triangles, Ma’am.
Share your observations about the activity.

Yes, Angel.

(Student will raise their hands)

Very good, Angel!
Two triangles are similar if two sides
What do you think is the best term that will in one triangle are proportional to two
describe the similarities of each triangle? sides in the other triangle and the
included angles.
Yes, Elmer.

(Student will raise their hands)

Okay thank you, Elmer!
If the angle in each triangle is equal,
How about the angles inside each triangle? then the two triangles are congruent.

Yes, Reggie.

Very good, that’s nice to hear, Regie!

(Students collaboratively do the task)

F. Abstraction
(Student’s possible answer)
Within the same group, name all similar right
triangles. Make sure that the corresponding
angles are congruent. Write your answer in the
sheet of paper provided. You have 5 minutes to
do the task.
Δ𝐽𝐾𝑀 ∼ Δ𝐽𝐿𝐾 ∼ Δ𝐾𝐿𝑀

1.

Δ𝑃𝑄𝑅 ∼ Δ𝑃𝑆𝑄 ∼ Δ𝑄𝑆𝑅

2.

Δ𝐴𝐵𝐶 ∼ Δ𝐶𝐵𝐷 ∼ Δ𝐴𝐶D

3.
Time is up! Let me check your answers.

(The teacher will evaluate the answer of each

group and elaborate the topic)

Right Triangle Similarity Theorem If the

altitude of a right triangle is drawn to the
hypotenuse, then the two triangles formed are
similar with each other and to the original right
triangle.

So, let Δ𝑋𝑌𝑍 be a right triangle where ∠𝑋𝑌𝑍 the

right angle, and 𝑌𝑊̅̅̅̅̅ is an altitude to the
hypotenuse 𝑋𝑍̅̅̅̅. Since ∠𝑋𝑌𝑍 is a right angle and
𝑌𝑊̅̅̅̅̅ is an altitude, we can say that ∠𝑋 and ∠𝑍
are complementary. Now, splitting the right
triangle into two, we form new angles ∠𝑋𝑌𝑊
and ∠𝑊𝑌𝑍 which are complements of ∠𝑋 and
∠𝑍 respectively. With these conditions, we can
say that ∠𝑋 ≅ ∠𝑊𝑌𝑍 and ∠𝑍 ≅ ∠𝑋𝑌𝑊, also
∠𝑋𝑊𝑌 ≅ ∠𝑌𝑊𝑍 because they are right angles.
Hence, all corresponding angles are congruent.
Therefore 𝚫𝑿𝒀𝒁 ∼ 𝚫𝑿𝑾𝒀 ∼ 𝚫𝒀𝑾𝒁.

This time, to further understand the lesson, let us

have some examples.

Example 1:

Consider the illustration of the parts of a right

triangular sail. The height of the sail is called the
luff, the base of the sail is called the foot, the
tack is found at the vertex of the right angle,
while the hypotenuse of the triangular sail is
called the leech. If the luff is 12 ft. long and the
foot measures 9 ft., how far is the tack from the
leech. Remember that the shortest distance from
the vertex of the right angle to the hypotenuse is
an altitude of the right triangle. Hence, we have
three similar triangles, Δ𝑇𝐿𝐶, Δ𝐻𝐿𝑇, 𝑎𝑛𝑑
Δ𝐻𝑇𝐶, and are shown separately below.
Since they are similar by the Right Triangle
Similarity Theorem, their corresponding sides
|TL| | HT | None so far, Ma’am!
are proportional, =
|TC| |HC|

Substitute terms of the proportion by the lengths

of the sides;

X 12 (Students read the instruction and do

= the task).
9 15

Solve for the value of 𝑥;

108
x=
15

X = 7.2 ft.

Any clarification? Questions?
