Carrying the ball- is a violation in which a player “carries” the ball or allows their hand to go underneath the ball while dribbling. 3 seconds- once a player has established a position in the restricted area, they are not allowed to remain there for more than three consecutive seconds unless they are preparing to shoot or pass. 5 seconds- 8 seconds- 24 seconds TYPE OF FOUL Holding- occurs when a defender holds, grabs, or pulls an offensive player (it doesn't matter if the offensive player has possession of the ball or not). Blocking- when a defensive player uses their body to prevent another player from moving. Pushing- Contact that displaces an opponent (for example, pushing a player away from the basket, or using body weight to affect a player's movement). Hand checking- is defined as illegal contact by a defensive player, which impedes the forward and/or lateral movement of the offensive player. Charging with ball- is an offensive foul that happens when a player runs into a stationary defender who has established a legal guarding position. Excessive elbow- Foul in the act of shouting- If a shooter is fouled while attempting a two-point shot, they will receive two free throws. Foul not in the act of shouting
